Without an owner's manual this question isn't as stupid as it seems. Where would the sunroof operating switch be on my newly acquired 1978 911SC?
There are two switches under the dash in the immediate vicinity of the ignition key slot. Neither of which seem to be working and neither have any labeling that can be read off their faces. I've trawled through a few searches but most of them seem to focus on repair and replacement as opposed to location. |

Don't know what the other switch is, but the sunroof switch is usually directly above the ignition on the underside of the gauge housing--a rocker switch with a chrome trim. If you press it (ignition on) and nothing happens, then you may have a problem with the motor, relay, fuse, or switch itself. The other switch may be for the side mirrors, but that's just a guess.

The sunroof switch is a rocker a goes front to back. The mirror switch is 2 position and sits left to right.

Got it!
Although neither of them are working, I've managed to identify what I'm certain is the sunroof switch (and the mirror switch). Thanks Group911. It is actually unusual that they aren't working. Most of the accessories are in pretty good working order for a 30 year old car. |
