OK ALL IPOD GUYS>>>>> Super easy tunes. I built a Speedster replica and this is what I did. Head Units are way out of the times.
Get an amp, a cable that goes from the RCA's(white and Red) to the headphone jack on your ipod, and speakers. You will have to mount the speakers however you want. 6x9, 6.5, 5.25 whatever you want. Install the amp and hook up all the speakers. Your ipod/zune/MP3 players headphone jack will run DIRECT to the Amp. Volume is controlled on the ipod. Want a radio? The Zune has one. Super Easy. Less than 300-400 bucks and awesome sound. Plus it looks like you haven't changed a thing in your Porsche. |
I've always thought those remote control things would be very helpful for those times when you don't want to raise your hand and extend your arm all the way to the radio's manual controls. Perhaps someone could come up with a remote that can work the rest of the controls on the dash. I probably reach my hands clear out to the dash controls several time on each commute, and that's just a LOT of stress on my arms. I think you guys would agree, right? I mean, you guys being luxury car drivers and all. Power brakes, power steering, power clutch actuation, etc. I should also probably add another power unit so the gas pedal is power assisted. It probably takes at least two, maybe three pounds of pressure to push the gas pedal all the way in.
And maybe a lift device to move my body into and out of the car, to perserve my leg muscles. |
Or if you have a modern head unit you will probably have an Aux input set of rca jack on the rear of your head unit.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1200955983.jpg It's been fitted with a 3.5mm jack which allows you to plug in anything with a headphone jack (portable CD player/MP3 player/iPod etc...): http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1200956087.jpg |
Another option:
The Blaupunkt GTA series of in-car amplifiers have a Direct Aux input which allows you to connect an iPod etc directly to the amp - you don't even need a head unit! This way you can have your radio delete and your music too! ;) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1200956350.jpg Links: Blaupunkt GTA 280 Blaupunkt GTA 480 |

The ULTIMATE head unit would:
1. control an ipod 2. have AM/FM - and be able to switch from all radio bands to the ipod 3. have Weather Band 4. look "right" in an early 911 5. not cost $1,000 like the Mexico clone does! 6. BE very light wt. -- the amp belongs on the floor anyway |

Not on Becker or Navteq websites

Nak
the ultimate head unit would be conservatively designed to look right in an (aircooled) 911 dash and still produce excellent sound. What fit the bill for me was Nakamichi.

Running your iPod directly to the amp is a great idea, except it doesn't charge the iPod. My iPod lives in my car(s) unless I'm using it for jogging, the only time it comes inside long term is to update it. The idea of having to take it inside to charge it makes that a no-go.
I'm pretty sure that you can change the display options on the one in the OP. It doesn't get any better if you just see the controls and song info when it's on, and nothing when it's off. |
Here is my contribution after finally fitting my new center console and relocating switches etc. I am very happy with the look and performance of this unit and it has all the bell's and whistles without the flare.SmileWavy
