I recently had to replace the blower fan on my C2. I got one from Pelican
Parts (the complete unit - not just the motor) for $99.00 ! From what I understand it is for the 993, but it is used because the 964 one is not available anymore. I installed it but it didn't seem right so I took it out again this weekend to check it out and what I found is that the vibration isolation bushings are too long for the 964 mounting. They are about 1/4" too long and won't allow the snorkle to line up with the engine cowl piece so the bolts one engage a couple of turns - not the normal 6 or so. I wrote this email to Tom at Pelican so that they can tell others doing the same replacement. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Hi Tom, I want to thank you for getting the blower fan out to me awhile back. I immediately installed it, but it didn’t seem quite right as the air inlet from the engine cowl didn’t line up right and the bolts did not seem to go in very far. I didn’t have the time to mess with it right then and it worked so I wasn’t too worried about it. Yesterday I was doing some other things to the car and it was bugging me why the air inlet didn’t line up, so I removed the blower assembly to check things out. I had not thrown the old one away so I put them side by side and found that the vibration isolation bushings on the new one are longer than the old ones – by about a 1/4". I swapped the old ones for the new ones and that fixed it. This explains why the bolts didn’t screw in as far and why the blower was off to the left not allowing the snorkel to line up with the air inlet. You might want to make a note of this so when someone buys one of these for a 964 you can let them know they need to use the old bushings or risk stripping the aluminum threads out on the mounting and not having the air inlet very effective. Hope this helps ! ------------------ Tom Sharpes 90 C2 Targa http://members.rennlist.com/myc2 |
