Late Introduction
I have been a member since 05 but only recently aquired my first 911, an 84 US model with 128K miles. I bought it from an add listed here from a good guy in Boston. I wanted a 911 since I was a kid.
I live in PEI Canada and am using this site a great deal to get through my general servicing, repairs, and mods I am undertaking to make this winter pass. I will probably be posting lots of questions and hope I can offer some knowledge contribution as my experience with the car grows. Winter projects to be completed before spring. 1. lower seat rails - almost done ,will post pictures of my no welding to the tunnel solution 2. clutch adjust - having some issues with this one, need assistance on helper spring issue. Can't seem to get any reponse to thread I added some pics on. This was Identified during PPI as a possible cause to my notchy 2nd gear. 3. replacing axle seals - Identified during PPI, leaking a little 4. Adjust valves - due in a couple thousand miles 5. Adjust front bearings , too much play - identified during PPI 6. Replace shift bushings - since I have the interior and console out for the seat rail lowering 7. Install cat bypass supplied with car. 8. Install steve wong chip . Motronic out for seat rail lowering so might as well upgrade now. 9. Replace muffler with sport. Since I an doing the cat bp and SW chip I might as complete the exercise with a muffler. Next year: 1. Replace not functing foot well blower 2. Maybe paint http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1200954248.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1200954346.jpghttp://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1200954440.jpg |
Welcome!
How does she go in the snow? |
Hallo! welcome to the forum.

Way to go! Silver looks good in that setting!

Don't know
Photos were from PO on shipping day. I don't know how she is in the snow. It was driven by the PO to the loading dock and when I received it I had it dropped off at my garage door. It will not see the road until it is well cleared of salt. I think the previous owners avoided winter/salt as well as it is in great shape underneath for a northeast car of its age.

I don't blame you for not driving in the snow. I get upset when I get caught out in the rain.

Welcome aboard...Look weird to see a 911 in the snow....

Hey Syl
Syl,
I asked you another question on your exhaust chip setup a couple days ago., you had posted a response to a question I had asked . I wonder if I could throw it at you here again since I never heard back. " My planned setup will be similar to yours except I was thinking a M&K 1 in 1out muffler. Can you comment on the driving feel power wise of your setup versus stock. Does it have or feel like much of an improvement or is it just mostly sport muffler noise ?" Thanks Ross |
Welcome Welcome Eight Four

Welcome East Coaster!
Love the colour of your car. Cheers |
Ha Ha. I just figured that out about 5 min ago. That's why I deleted my post! Thanks for the reply, though...and Welcome again!

Welcome Inniswhe, very nice car, I'll certainly be interested in your no-weld seatrail pictures and tech write-up if you can.

The car looks great! I wanted silver or platinum and I ended up with guards red...
Sometime the cars choose you! Congrats! I can't wait for the snow and salt to go away too! |
No weld seat rail lowering mod
Buckterrier,
I will try and get some pics up and a dedicated post tomorrow. My photos are on my laptop at work. I am still going to be doing some welding although it could probably be entirely avoided if you wanted too. The issue for me was how to lower the rail next to he center tunnel when the gas lines were inside the tunnel . I have read of problems melting gas lines etc. It didn't sound great so I came up with what I think will work fine. I drilled 4 holes in the tunnel below the gas line chase ( can see the spot welds delineating the internal chase. I then set 4 - 5/16" blind nuts in the holes. These are installed with a kind of a pop rivet device that expands a nut anchor in the hole. I know a guy that owns a sheetmetal shop and he lent me the toolkit with the anchors. This was a really slick solution to the problem. I was thinking of riveting but most aluminum rivets are pretty light. With this setup , I can use a strong capscrew and will have a nut that cannot pull through. I then bolted the new fabricated heavier seat rail to the center tunnel with the cap screws and locktite. The other side of the rail will be welded to the stubs of the old rails I left in place on the floor . I didn't want to have to weld the new rail to the floor directly as it may overheat the floor and undercoating below. A nice overlapped sheetmetal joint will be easier to weld as well. The outside rail will be welded in as I do not believe there is anything to melt in the exterior sill. It is easier to comprehend with pictures so I will try and get them. I think I got the stock sport seats 1.25" lower. It gets pretty tight around the back of the seat if you have the seat all the way back but it makes a huge difference for me fit wise. Ross |
