Tom: When we did a clutch at my shop all of my guys knew to not even touch the friction material of the disc, just the oil from your fingertips can cause a chatter. I would say that your disc is a throw-away - sorry! The seal goes letter side toward the engine (the sealing lip of the seal, with the spring, goes on the shaft first).

Thanks for the info Peter - if I'm even close to your standards, my disc is without question, garbage - I'll order new one.

Another question - I noticed that the joint flanges (not sure if that's their technical name but the flanges on the trans. that the drive shafts/CV's bolt to) have lateral play in them. I can move them about .5mm in and out of the trans. Is this normal?

Thanks,
Tom

Yep, that play is normal...

Whew. Sorry to be unorganized w/my questions - I have another. How about play w/the input shaft? It's not a rattle, back & forth type play like the drive shaft flanges, but I can wiggle it around just a bit. I suppose that it's more locked in when connected to the engine, but when puling out the old seal, I noticed that I can move it around just a bit.

Thanks again for the help,
Tom

Also normal! Remember that little bearing in the center of the flywheel? That's called a pilot shaft bearing, and gives support to the tip of the mainshaft. Don't worry about your questions, they're excellent and show that you're paying attention!

Thanks - whew again. I'm just placing my parts order this morning - I'm sure something else will come up between now and when it's buttoned back up.

Thanks again for your help,
Tom
