Will 16" wheels fit 1974 narrow body?

I currently have 6jx15 cookies, interested in 6"x16 and 7"x16 fuchs. Will these fit without having to do any modifications? Or will I have to keep 6" width on both wheels if I am able to go to 16" wheels?

Chris

16" Fuchs will fit your 74 911. TO be absolutely careful, use the 16 x 6. Though we have put 7 x 16s on a few cars, we found that some of the cars had clearance problems on the left rear- the tire would rub on hard conrering, resulting in paint blisters. If you use ultra low profile tires (45 series) then the 7s will clear with no problems, front and rear. The combo of 7 x 16s with 225/45 x 16 tires gives the car a very aggressive stance and lowers it by about an inch

Hey CHris, I have the exact setup you're interested in (6 and 7 x 16 fuchs) on my 75 coupe. As Dave pointed out, my drivers side rear would rub on hard cornering. The fix for this is to simply roll the bottom lip of your rear wheelwell upwards so that the tire clears. It only takes just a little bit to clear. I did it myself, very easily. Car has a far more aggressive zeal now with the new wheels. Responsiveness has also greatly improved.

I beleive the 16 x 7 fuchs will only fit on the back of narrow body's if the tires are 205's. Anything wider than this is probably going to rub. So if you want wider tires better go 6's all around.

Ok, found a good set of 16X6 and 16X7 Fuchs. Now for the tires, what size for the front vs the rear in order to get the closest accuracy to the speedometer and clearance.

I'm thinking 205/45 on the front and 215/40 on the rear

FWIW 205/55R16 is the stock size for the front, used for many years with the 16x6" Fuchs...I run that setup all the way around on my 70

I too run 205/55 on all four wheels on my 75 911S. 16 x 6 in the front 16 x 7 in the rear. I ran this exact setup also on my 70 911T without any problems.

Ok, wheels have arrived, looking to order tires today..need advice. Wheels are Fuchs 6" front and 7" rear
I've settled on the Kumho Ecsta Supra 712s. As for size, I'm considering 205/50/16 for the front wheels and 225/45/16 for the rear. Does anyone have this combination on a narrow body 911. If not, should I go with 205/45 all around or 205/50. I currently have 6" wheels all around with 205/60s, absoutely no rubbing with these. Quick responses please, I would like to get them ordered and on the car before the weekend....Chris

I have Fuchs 16x6 wheels with 205/55 Kumhos all round. It's about as big as you can get in the front although the rear would probably take a 225/50. Seems to me you need a wider rim for the 225/50. If you go to a lower profile and lower the car accordingly it should look good but you'll be lowering your gearing and your speedometer will be optimistic.

I like the Kumhos because they are reasonably priced, comfortable for daily driving and are really good in the rain. However, compared to the Michelins XGTV's I had before they roll a lot more on the corners. If my car was just a weekend warrior I'd prefer the Michelins, more responsive and predictable in the corners.

I just bolted the 7" Fuchs (sans tire)to the rear. It looks like the wheel itself extends out to the lip of the fender. How much does a 225/45/16 tire fill a 7" rim? My 205s on the 6" rims extends beyond the edge of the wheel. Still wondering whether to use 205s all around 6" front 7" rear

Matt, what size tires do you have on the rear (7")? Did you go with a lower profile than the front?
