Newer tub for early car

What are the compatibility issues with using a newer tub for rust repair on an older “early” car? What are the major differences between a 71 tub and a SC tub other than the nose that would prevent me from doing this?

My 71T has some major rust issues that include the longitudinals and jack points. These areas need to be replaced. These rusted areas indicate that the entire inner and outer rockers are shot. The front pan could use some work and may need to be replaced.

Instead of buying all these panels separately (hard to source and $$$) what are the pros and cons of buying a tub or at least the chunks I need from a donor tub?

I see the benefits of buying a tub being able take whatever piece you may need any size I wish. I could also use a galvanized tub for the rust prevention benefits. Are there issues welding the two metals together?

Thanks

Colin

Well.....first off, it depends on how much SC and how much 71 is going to be left over.....some state DMVs take a dim view of swapping VINs and then calling it a 71.

As to cutting out or unbolting parts and then hanging it on the 71 tub you really don't get the full benefit of a "galvanized tub". Welding also tends to promote rusting unless you take time to really prep, seal and paint the welds.

I'm just thinking about swapping out the rockers and the longitudinals. I may also need the torsion tube and floors.

Are these pieces interchangeable? Early tubs generally have the same problems I do.

Any problems going to a later torsion tube designed for the 915?

I do not understand why one would want to cut another car apart, to obtain used sheet metal, that can be readily sourced NEW.

I had to replace the inner and outer rockers as well as the rear longitudinals (at one point my rear torsion bar tube was lying on the garage floor). Got ALL my sheet metal for my rebuild from Restoration Design and was well pleased.

I do understand they may be behind currently (in shipping products) because of demand.
