Question Early 911/912 foglights

Does anybody know where I can buy a new pair of early 911/912 Hella foglights for my 1970 911T? Thanks!

I think Stoddard has them, as well as Performance Products and Tweeks.

There is a set on ebay right now (no affiliation w/ seller).

I have seen nice sets in the $100/pr range on ocassion. Concours ones will be significantly more. New ones are like $350 each I believe, if still available.

What you want is Hella 169's. These are mine (not for sale, sorry), w/ the original clear lenses, then with the amber lenses (from Stoddard):

I have a set of what seem like "stock" fogs on my '68 that come out of the "cut" horn grills. I don't really want them and was hoping to trade them and the grills for a nice set of plain horn grills if anyone is interested. Apparently the factory cut horn grills are very rare (read: someone, somewhere must really want them just don't know who). If anyone is interested look in the Brett Johnson restorer's book under '68 targa...that is my car.

joehahn, I might be interested in your fog lights and cut horn grilles if they are the round hella 118 type (about 4 1/2" diameter, forgot the exact measurement). Please email me at bfranklin@metlife.com.

Thanks!

Brad

The factory-option horn grille Hellas are the 118 type. These were recently available NOS for about $150 each but supplies seem to have dried up; and accordingly prices are climbing.

The grilles themselves, especially the 'cut' factory 4-screw (SWB) ones, are made of 18K unobtainium. I have only seen a handful of these for sale in the last 10 years. I have no idea what they would be worth now. If I had a pair, I would not sell them yet.

The mounting brackets for the horn grille lights are also getting harder to find: there is a "U" shaped bracket that bolts to each battery box, and then a swivel clamp that bolts to the "U" bracket and the lamp assembly. These used to be around $20 each from Stoddard, but are NLA now I believe.

IMHO a complete working Hella 118 system would easily be worth $500+ to a motivated buyer. Driving lights, as opposed to fogs, would be worth somewhat more.

As I mentioned previously, a good pair of Hella 169 (below bumper) fogs are more likely in the $100-200 territory.

Wink

...imagine that. Someone tells you what you have is worth something and all of the sudden you like it a lot more!

The Hella 118's were available right up until about 9 months ago.....I guess the few people who knew they were available pretty much sucked the supply dry (me included). I had 15 pairs that I sold for about $300 a pair over the course of 2 years, but can't get any more....I have seen these at swap meets over the last couple of years, so if you're diligent, you can probably find a set....thought the price my be up!

Hi Eric - glad to see you on the board. The 118's in the (fuzzy) pic above were actually from you...unfortunately I sold them (DOH) at my cost right before they became unobtainium. Stupid. But I still have the factory grilles and brackets, which I'm using w/ some awesome H1 hella driving lamps.
