Help, Ignition removal 911 sc

This is my first post and I'm a new Porsche owner, 1983 911SC
The ignition switch is bad, turn it all the way to the right and
there is nothing. The guy I bought it from had a button scabbed in.
I'm trying to remove the switch.
I have removed the front cap only to find 2 screws and 2 what appear to be rivets, I pulled the electrical plug off the back and I'm at a loss on how
to remove the ignition and lock assembly.

Thanks for your help
Gary D

Ignition Switch Removal.......

Gary D,

Your ignition switch consist of two (2) sections, the mechanical lock and electrical tumbler. The electrical part is secured to the mechanical lock assembly unit by two (2) tiny screws. You need all the dexterity and patience to remove these screws. The space is very tight and will probably help if you remove the driver side seat for better access. Good luck.

Thanks Tony,
When I take the tiny screws out of the back does the whole lock assembly
pull out of the steering column?

Igniton SW......

Gary,

I've not removed the steeering lock assembly. After removing the 2 tiny screws, you could remove/replace the electrical tumbler (if needed). The steering lock is still securely fastened to the dashboard panel and steering column.

Do you need to replace the steering lock assembly? Most often, the electrical section of the ignition switch go bad and could be replaced partially as needed.

I'm not sure Tony, when you turn the key all the way to the right there is nothing,
and there is also no tension or spring back when it is turned completely to the right,
I thought I should feel a little resistence at the end.
When I bought the car you turned the key all the way to the right and left it there and then pushed a little button the owner wired in, I don't think he wanted to pay for a new ignition.
When I pulled that electrical section off the back and located the correct wires , I jumped
it and it started right up, so I just figured it was the whole assembly that was bad?
