Should I run any of these early mufflers, save them, or should I sell them?
 

I have a collection of early mufflers that I've obtained somehow or another. On the car is a fairly new Dansk sport muffler. In the garage I have an Abarth four pipe muffler and an ANSA muffler that looks just like the stock one I pulled off of my early car.

My stock muffler was sold a few months ago so it's long gone. Were ANSA mufflers ever stock on early cars? Here's a not so great pic....

Should I repaint this ANSA and save it for sometime in the future? I don't really ever see myself going back to stock but folks like to save the stock parts for some reason.

The Abarth was on my brother's 2.2S when he bought it and it was replaced by a Dansk sport muffler. I searched the archives and found a few posts about the Abarth muffler, apparently they are hard to find. Is this thing like those sport seats, deep 6s, and ST flares you guys have stashed away? Meaning should I just hold onto it until sometime down the road it's worth a more money?

Ah these might be dumb questions but I thought you guys would have good advice. Currently I am trying to fund a suspension rebuild on my '70 911T so maybe selling these parts would be a good idea.

That little Abarth has gotta sound tough! I know I would run it to check DB level, tone and performance.
I'm not sure how much, but it's probably fairly desireable!

From what I remember, ANSA was below OEM quality. From the pics, it shows this on the welds and finish. The ABARTH on the other hand looks more robust.

Save them both. That ANSA with the ridges is definitely early, and the Early S guys will love the Abarth.

Thank you guys for the replies. I think I'll strip them down and repaint. I remember driving my brother's S with the Abarth on it and at 7 grand it sounded pretty sweet.

I dig the sound of my Dansk, it's a deeper tone than the Abarth was so maybe I'll sell it once I do the restoration. We'll see what happens!

Ansa's usually rust on the shelf...surprised it's in one piece....definitely low end.

I agree on the Abarth...just the name means vintage. The 356 guys all go gaga over them.

Yeah the car the Ansa came off of was from Texas so I'm sure it lived in a dry climate when it was in use.

The Abarth is built like a tank! We'll see how things look once I get it cleaned up. It appears that the Abarth was originally black and the Ansa was gray at some point.

OK so I've searched and searched. Google has nothing, ebay has nothing, and the early911sregistry had nothing. I'd like to have posted this question over on the 911s registry but how much do you guys think the Abarth muffler is worth?

I am going to my storage unit Friday and will be pulling it out to sell. Just looking for some ballpark ideas. Thanks!

I think the ANSA is a good candidate to do a home made 2 in three out rally muffler :-)

I have seen the abarths for sale in the classifieds a few times but I dont remember what they were asking.

Thank you for finding that. I'm not sure what I was doing wrong with the search over there, you can only put in Abarth muffler so many ways!

I've always had problems activating my account over at the registry. The activation email has never shown up in my regular mail box or my spam box.

I'll post up the ANSA for sale here and see if the guy who contacted me regarding the Abarth still wants it at a fair price. My muffler obviously isn't NOS but it's in decent shape.
