Opinions on QSC cylinder & piston set

We're thinking of purchasing a 2.5 cast iron cylinder & piston set from them for a tired 2.4 engine

The company full name is Quality Specialty Components ( www.qscusa.com )

Would be great to hear from a customers point of view/experience before we go ahead and order it.....

I recently bought a set of QSC 98mm nikasil plated cylinders for my 3.4L build (link in my sig). I used JE pistons, though.

The quality is really good. They all measured very close to each other height-wise and had really good roundness. I bought them from Henry at Supertec. He buys bunches of them and then matches them into sets. If you search the forum you'll find that if you don't buy them from someone who matches them it might be a crapshoot.

What he ^^^^ said. I have a set of 3.4L (98mm) with custom ordered JE pistons all sourced from Henry Schmidt, who carefully matched and inspected them. I wouldn't trust another source for these.

Another vote for Henry at Supertec for the QSCs. I also just finished at 3.4 build and the jugs and JE pistons looked and measured great. They are matched and pre-assembled so they are plug and play. There are lots of threads discussing the QSCs and quality (or lack thereof), some of them are from people who have never actually used them. Try searching in the Engine Rebuilding forum for Henry Schmidt or Supertec. Somewhere there is a long thread on what Henry goes through to cull out QSCs that are not to spec. Good Luck!

Thanx - now I defiantly know the route and I'll follow your advise - I'll read the previous threads also - first

I see all of you did the 3.4 - is this from a 3.0 or 3.2 case/engine? I have a 3.0 in my speedster still, and was wondering if this was a way to go - it really doesn't need a 3.6 conversion the way I use it..... For that a longhood RSR would be ideal

3.4 is the largest you can go without machining the case on a 3.2. Don't know about 3.0

Mine was to take my 3.3L turbo to a 3.4L...a very popular change as far as the 930 goes. I have over 10K of daily driven miles on my rebuilt turbo engine and the pistons and cylinders have held up fine.

How is the nikasil holding up on these QSC cylinders? I have heard that Millennium Technologies was the only place doing quality work?

I should also point out, that when I decided to "roll the dice" on the QSC/JE parts, I was trying my best to work within a rebuild budget, while also adding some performance and reliability mods. At the time, the tried and true Mahle Ps&Cs for my engine were fetching damn near $4,000! Thus I felt the QSC/JE option, sourced from Supertec was a fair compromise...and it was.

If I ever decide to go back in or get around to needing a top-end rebuild, I'll probably go with the LN Engineering "Nickies" or the JB Racing cylinders. Right now, I just drive it...

Using 98mm jugs you can turn a 3.0 into a 3.2 short stroke if you use the 3.0crank. IIRC, the 3.0 heads are your performance bottleneck though. If you want to turn your 3.0 into a 3.4 you'd need a 74.4mm (3.2L) crank and the 98mm cylinders.

But by the time you did that you'd probably be better off selling your 3.0 and buying a 3.2 core to rebuild into a 3.4 and get the better induction, heads and the Motronic engine management system too.

Schnellmann - sure seems like it

Now - I see that most of you go for the JE pistons - nobody uses QSC's pistons? Because of compression/quality++?
