Newbie in need of advice

Hello everyone! This is my first thread here at 911 tech forum. I’d owned a 944 for 3 years, and I finally purchased this ’82 SC coupe with $11K a several months ago. It’s been pretty stable and healthy mechanically so far, and I started thinking about adding some classic looks on it as a part of my long-term backdating (+ upgrading) project.

First, thanks to one of the pelican members notthd, I got a pair of H4 headlights with chrome trims. They look pretty sharp compared to the original headlights, but they made me wanna have some more chrome parts.

Yet I’m still debating with myself if I should get a pair of paintable headlight rings for color coordination and keep my car like that for a while, or get chrome parts all the way and prepare for backdating.

I’m still a student and cannot do that much yet (such as putting longhood body or wide body conversion), but I’m dreaming to make my car like famous Jack Olsen’s. And I just thought it is a good way to start putting some classic elements for now…

Anyways, if you guys have any selling info or pics about SC with chrome parts (such as window trims, door handles and silver color square mirrors), duck tails or any kind of classic tastes, please share with me so that I can consider about it.

Thanks!!

There's been some discussion of chrome vs. black trim on various model years. I dunno any links tho, so you might have to really crank on the search engine to find it...

Hey kento944,
The chrome on the lights do match the wheels, but i think they look better when they are painted . I really like the color of your car, I was very close to buying i 911 SC in that same color, But i ended up with my 1985 Carrera....in prussian blue!!

What is the color code on your SC? It looks really nice and it's close to my early car. My car is a repaint with a color change but I don't know what the color is from.

Well, I'll up you one, and show you a Carrera with bright trim.

It's also a Targa, but you can see that the bright stuff works on SC's and Carreras.

First of all, THANK YOU GUYS for your “welcome” comments. This is why I like to belong to this community!

Wickd89, thanks for your comment.

Racerbvd, yes! I love your ducktail!! Is it Getty? I found one on ebay today, and it was like around $400, I think…

Axiom, is that your shop?? I live along FW405, so I should stop by somtime!

Rwebb, yeah…. If I did some more research on chrome trim before purchase, I would definitely go for SC with chrome… I became a huge fan of chrome all of a sudden.

911Rob, thanks! I like chrome headlight rings on my car too, but I feel envy at 911’s with perfect color coordination. I actually preferred 944’s to 911’s because of their slant nose look, but once I actually saw and drove 911, everything changed…

3.2 Carrera, I was thinking about re-painting my car to blue color.. I think gulf blue or something..

BlueSideUp, I am also wondering what color it is because my color code plate (I don’t know the name of that place on engine lid) was taken away… It is like gray, slate, metallic and purple at the same time.

Pkaaso, Village idiot, Zef, thanks for the compliment! I’m sure she feels flattered.

Billybek, haha I just noticed that it’s been “944” for a long time… My e-mail addresses have “944” too…

Haileypcar, people here are better mechanics than most of them out there…

Efhughes3, wow you’ve got everything I want.., chrome with duck.. thanks for sharing!

Here's the pics of engine. I think the gold plate was supposed to have color code on it... is it?

The color code is either on a metal plate on the front driver's door jamb - by the metal strap to the door.

...or on a paper sticker on the underside of the front hood. Open the hood and it's behind the latch. Of course, these tended to disappear over time...

You can go to 'paintscratch.com' and try to match the color.
