question on wheel lock.

Can I use steel wheel lock, ebay# 370010868344 pic below, while still usingthe stock aluminum black lugs? Will I lose my wheels balance?

Yes,

It would change the balance somewhat. Even the factory locking lug nuts are a little heavier than the regular nuts, so when balancing wheels that will use them, a five gram weight is added to the wheel adjacent to where the locking lug will be used, while balancing. Once balanced, this extra weight is removed.

The bigger problem I see is that the taper on the steel lug nuts shown doesn't look like it is correct for a Porsche wheel. Take a look at one of yours; you'll see that the profile of the nut where it contacts the wheel is more spherical. Using one of these would damage a Porsche wheel and it wouldn't torque properly.

"I" always stay away from wheel locks. If someone wants your wheels they just steal the whole car. Can't tell you how many threads have been on "lost my wheel lock key" or the "wheel lock key is stripped", etc, etc.....

I have a set of Porsche locking lugs that I'll let go for cheap. They are black alloy and are made to be used with Fuchs, etc. Send a PM with your contact info.

I lost key myself several times and didn't use lock for a long time, even on big after market wheels. But recently, I feel worry since our wheels are to rare compare to "normal wheels".

javadog,
Really? I am not sure but the ad said "Porache wheel lock" so I just assume it'll fit. Will check. Also, how can one balance tire with lugs/lock on the wheel? Lug only come in when wheel mount to the car, right?

Danny_Ocean,
PM

rnln,

Yes, really. The taper on those lug nuts in the picture appears to be conical, not spherical. Compare it to a nut off of your wheels and see if you can spot the difference. The profile on the factory nuts matches that of the recess around the holes in the wheel. This match is critical.

The balancing is done as I indicated above, although these will have a different weight than the stock locking nuts so you'd be on your own to figure out how much weight to add to the wheels when balancing.

If I were you, I'd buy the Porsche ones.

You might want to try the new style factory alloy locks available here- http://www.pelicanparts.com/cgi-bin/ksearch/PEL_search.cgi?command=show_part_page&please_wait=N&make=POR&model=911M&section=MISCLL&page=14&bookmark=68&part_number=993-361-057-00-M260

Russ,
Thanks for the heads up. It turns out that Danny has a used set. It is the same as the set you pointed out.
Thanks.
