I'm talking about the competition type seats that have no reclining back and the aluminum side brackets.
How did you mount them? What fabrication was necessary? I've been told it's common to fabricate an aluminum plate to mount the side brackets onto. If so, how do you clear the Motronic brain under the seat, etc. |

The plate mounts to the bottom of the seat and a set of rails mounts to that. The rails should allow the clearance for the brain and adjustments to seat distance from your controls. Your overall seat height will be lower as the race seats tend to have less padding. Thus allowing helmet clearance with the roof and/or roll bar.
Be advised, when strapped in and ready to race with a five point harness, you may have to be a little closer to the steering wheel. The shift into gears at the 2 o'clock position involves a bit of a reach. Restrained you may not be able to do it if in your "normal" comfortable unrestrained driving position. The only way to compensate is to move the seat up or get a short shift.....or both. Hope that helps. [This message has been edited by mikez (edited 04-05-2001).] |
