The fuel pump on my SC emits a soft whine (or buzz?)with the motor running. I've been told this is normal. What about yours?

I've got to learn to search the archives before I post one of my newbie questions.
There is a wealth of postings on the music made by the fuel pump. General consensus is it's normal. ------------------ Doug '81 SC Coupe (aka: "Blue Bomber") Canada West Region PCA members.home.net/zielke/911SC.htm |

The fuel pump is behind the fuel tank in the front of the car. You can get to it bu removing the suspension pan.

I hear mine, but I recently had the cover off and noticed that the two rubber bushings that it mounts on were cracked and broken, with the pump supported only by the hoses. Replaced the bushings and it quieted somewhat. I think some humming is normal though.

Mine does this too. Mine runs if the key is turned to the on position without the car running. Does anyone know if this is normal?

The fuel pump should only run while the ignition is in the START position (cranking the engine) or when the ignition is in the ON position AND the engine is running. Check to see if the air flow sensor has been disconnected. It's a small Bosch style plug on the back of the sensor plate housing.
