engine number question
my engine number ends with 4R. what does this mean? Probably nothing but it seems like a normal 3.0 in an 82 SC. the case numbers are the same font on 1 side and the other side has the same fonts except the 4R is recessed rather than the molded look. Its like the case have may have had a different last letter and number. The case was ground smooth then punched 4R

You are probably looking at the casting number. The engine number for an 82 911 should start with 64Cxxxx. The number is located to the right of the fan on the side of the housing close to the block. Just to the right of that will be the engine type, 930/16.
