Time for a change

Time for a change.

My 72S with Carrera 3.0 engine is 90% finished so it is time to sell.

I was looking for a 77 or older car to bring back to the US when my tour in the UK is over and stumbled across a US spec 93 Carrera 2 Tiptronic Cabriolet. A very different car than mine but still an incredible automobile. What are some of the things I should emphasise at the PPI. I understand that the 93 will have the revised cylinder head seals and no exploding duel mass flywheel due to tiptronic. The car has done 55,000 miles and the dealer is asking $30,000, well under bluebook retail ($40K) and trade ($33K).

I also got to drive a 73 Carrera RS. These cars are the most responsive cars I've ever driven. Unfortunately the fiance wants comfort and once she sat in the new car there was no going back. Oh well.

Clay,

Just how much was that RS 2.7? You could always get the wife (if Fiance ver. 1.0 survives the upgrade to Wife ver. 2.0) a car of her own later own, right? She doesn't HAVE TO DICTATE YOUR RIDE, I hope? If you bring that RS 2.7 back with you, a tidy profit could be realized if you sold it here!

As Warren said... PLEASE don't trade off that 73 RS (even if it isn't original) for a plain ol' 93 964 (tiptronic no less!). This is going to sound corny, but I gotta say it; Follow your heart on this one, buy the wife a nice comfortable sedan when you get back here. http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate/smile.gif

What were they asking for that RS?

Wait a minute... buy them both! http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate/smile.gif The wife can drive the '93, you can cruise in the RS! Peace!

You are planning to bring a car from the UK to the US? I thought that the cars usually went the other way!

My '73S cost about the same in Dollars as I could sell it in Pounds - not a real money maker if you include shipping and finding the vehicle.

I would have thought that a decent 2.7RS would now be at the 30,000 Pound mark.

The above garages occasionally have 2.7RS, though I don't think either have an original one at the moment

FWIW... my wife (was "fiance" when I bought my 91 C2, "fiance" during the 'BMW years' and only "girlfriend" when I still owned my 78 SC) actually enjoys the 91 C2 best of all. Not quite as comfortable as the 93 BMW 325, but definitely more comfortable than the 78 SC. Although she - by her own decision - will never drive my C2, it is definitely easier for me to say "let's take my car!" without complaints. And the "weeeee" factor pushes it ahead of the bimmer every time.

I'm just glad she stuck with me through two Porsches and a BMW! Hmmm, what next?

I should clarify that the RS was a replica (but as near to the real thing as they can get). Both Cars are at Formulae Fuchs http://www.fuchs.co.uk/ on their web site. The problem is with the money I can come up with the best I could do is get another project car. I can get the bank to finance $30K for the C2 and have no higher car payment than a 2-3 year old BMW 328 but they wont even look at $22.5K for a 30 year old RS replica.
As for shipping the car back, the US Navy handles that for free when I go home.

More than one Clay on the same board? What're the odds?

there's usually a reason a car is selling for 10K below book.

Clay,

I would advise extreme caution when considering a purchase from fuchs.

AutoFarm are more expenisve for a very good reason.

email me direct if you want to know more about mine and other peoples experience with Formulae Fuchs.

Clay,

Two weeks ago I bought a 1990 911 C2 Cabrio for $28.5K with 70,000 miles. Black exterior, tan interior with tiptronic. The car is in great condition and drives perfectly (in the 1000 miles I've put on thus far). So, $30K for a 1993 sounds like a great deal if the car was cared for.

Also, the car passed California emissions with numbers "about as low as you can get" according to the technician.

Good Luck,
Gary
