I remember seeing a Jack Olsen photo of Black Beauty's interior with a set of AJ usa pedals. If you do a search you might stumble onto it. Very nice looking pedals. I like that the gas pedal includes the hinge section and is not just a cover.

David speaks wisely, because he's from Illinois, which is where Black Beauty came from originally, and where Jack Olsen originally came from, as well.

Here are two threads that might help:

I just installed the AJ USA pedals in my 993. The install was easy and they look great!

Question

Hey Jack,

Is the dead pedal you have the black or unpainted version? I have been thinking about getting the black, but thought the finish might wear off and eventually i'd have refinish it.

I have the same set up as Jack and I really enjoy the set up. Even heal to toe is easier. I too was thinking the black would wear off the dead pedal. Its bound to happen. But the four aluminum pedals provide3 a great look.

Kevin (from Illinois), yes, it's the black painted dead pedal. In the photo it's catching the light, so it almost looks like it matches the aluminum pieces. I think it's powder coated; no paint has come off yet. Since there's less friction (than a pedal which has to move under your foot, repeatedly), I suspect the paint will stay there.

The dead pedal is one of those upgrades that seems frivolous, until you put it in. Then you wonder how you lived without it.

I have never used these type of pedals because they look "slippery" to me. Has your foot ever slipped off one?

RarlyL8,
I use my 78SC as a daily driver, rain or shine. I have never had my foot slip from the pedals, wet or dry using the AJ USA pictured above, courtesy of Jack. I even have to wear leather sole shoes! I can't say the same for the OEM pedals. But then again I never replaced the worn rubber pads with new ones.

I worried about my foot slipping off the brake on a wet day, too, but it hasn't been an issue. The pedals have a lot of texture to them, and grip pretty well.

AJ-USA also has the same set with rubber inserts, though, if you want to be on the safe side.

I must say Jack, I am totally impressed by your expertise and thoroughness. Not to mention of course, your "SUPERB" car. I can only aspire to such a level, once I have improved mine. Thanks

Cool

Well, thanks. It's all a matter of perspective, though. My girlfriend might note that -- almost a year into ownership -- there still is no heat or air conditioning.

Thumbs up

Thanks Jack,

I agree that the dead pedal is a must have. Especially when the carpet in that location is showing a little wear?

Air shmair. I yanked that crap last year and don't regret it a bit. Let the girls sweat it out, I say.

Gotta have the heat. During those cool mornings and evenings, the steamy windows are a pain in the rear.
