Need help identifying seat slider.
Does anyone recognize this slider setup?
The seats are MOMO, it looks like the factory seat rails are still in place and a piece of steel has been bolted across them, then the sliders bolt to that. I need to mount a RECARO seat (Pro Racer HANS) and wonder what I need to buy. The RECARO seat is properly mounted with FIA-Approved steel sidemounts, but do these mount to a slider, or directly to the floor? Thanks in advance to any "seat police" who can help with this. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1201643376.jpg |
I am mounting a set of Recaro Pole Positions that use a similar (or perhaps identical) side mount as the Pro Racer HANS.
Those sliders that you have don't have a wide enough spacing to be used with the side mounts as is. Maybe you could make them work if you could get a wider lever to connect to the latches. For a straight bolt-in install (no drilling or other mods), the side mounts will bolt to the Recaro sliders, and the Recaro sliders will bolt to the factory seat rails. It appears that Recaro only sells two types of sliders - one with height adjust tabs (I don't know how that works) and one without. So this is your easiest option. I was told that my factory sliders would bolt to the side mounts, but that isn't true - of my particular sliders anyway (78 ROW SC). I could have made it work with some minor mods but decided to use it as an excuse to upgrade to the Recaro sliders, which latch on both sides. With some modifications, the side mounts can be bolted directly to the factory rails, as the side-to-side spacing matches up but the holes don't. I considered this option but decided to start out with sliders because I've never used a racing shell type seat before and didn't want to commit to a seat position with no driving time. Finally, I suppose you could cut out the factory rails and mount the seats directly to the floor. This is probably not as strong as the factory setup, as the floor is pretty thin. So in that case you might want to fabricate a more low-profile seat rail that welds or bolts to the side sill and tunnel. There are lots of threads on that sort of mod floating around here. Good luck Scott |
John, Scott,
I just mounted a Recaro Pole Position seat in a 1977 911 the other day. I've done a little research on mounts and ended up using the aluminum Recaro side mounts, bolted to factory sliders. The Recaro steel side mounts are dimensionally the same as the aluminum ones. There are two sets of holes drilled in the bottom of the Recaro seat mounts. One set matches the fore/aft spacing of the holes in the bottom of the factory sliders, where the sliders mount to the car. The other set of holes matches the fore/aft spacing of the holes in the top of the slider, where the slider attaches to the seat. So, you could mount the seat directly to the seat mounts on the car but you end up too close to the steering wheel and pedals. I'm 5'-9" and was too close, even with the seat mounted in the highest position on the side mounts. Momo side mounts will bolt to a Recaro seat, although the hole spacing on the bottom is not going to match the 911 hole spacing, either for the seat rails or the sliders. JR |
My (steel) Recaro seat mounts *definitely* only have one set of holes. Two holes in each mount, with a nut welded to the back of each. Nothing else.
I knew something must have been fishy, since I had read about others using the mounts with the factory sliders. Maybe I got the wrong mounts somehow. No matter, as they work for me. But this does help a little to clear things up. Scott |
You wouldn't happen to have a picture of these steel mounts, would you? Did you buy them new, and recently?
They sound like an older version to me. JR |
