H4s Disassembly and reassembly Help
 

I purchased a set of new H4 lamps in Chrome. I took them apart about 7 months ago to have them painted to match my car (86 930). What I need to know is what do you do with the two adjustment screws, because after taking them off, If I recall correctly the had something to retain them other than the rubber washer and the cone shaped washer-ring. Do you add a nut ? to keep the adjustment screw and in return the lens housing from sliding around. I know this is a bit confusing but if you ever took one of the euro H4 headlight assemblies apart you would hopefully know what I'm talking about.

I will be assembling my H4 this afternoon too; will snap a picture as my adj screws are still in place (unless someone else has one offhand).

Thanks for the help. Now that I see the Picture I recall cutting the round silver retainer, as shown in your picture. Removing them is necessary when you want to paint the trim rings. I guess I will just add nut's to mine to retain the screws.

The trim rings aren't shown in that picture, that's the back of the headlamp.

The trim rings are entirely separate pieces that clip over the headlamp rims (the back of which you can see in the picture), and that's the reason there's that funkytwo-piece screw.

The big part of the screw holds the headlamp into the fender, and the tiny little screw just holds the trim ring on.

The threads on top of a bosch spark plug are the same.
I've saved those threaded on connectors in the past and found they work here in this situation.
Just hang on to them with needle nose plyers and spin the phillips head screw up front with a battery drill at first and then finish with a screwdriver and they are quick to assemble.
It's good to measure and write down the length of threads exposed on each screw and reassemble the same so the aim is close.
