Post Kuhmo tire experience? - V700s?

Anyone have Kuhmo Tire experience?

I like to drive aggressively on the street and autocross everychance I get.

I have 7 & 9 Fuchs on my '85 911, otherwise stock. I want to stay in the stock class for autocross. I am looking to put some 225/50 and 245/45 Kuhmo Victor Racing V700 tires on it. I found these used for $250.00.

I do not drive my car in the rain. I am located in Northern Ca.

Like most, I am looking for the best "VALUE" tire I can find. If there is a less gripping tire yet better life expectancy, I might be swayed for that tire. The way I figure it, for that last 10% better grip I don't want to pay an extra $100 / tire.

I had RE71s, liked these a lot. Now I have Yoko AVS1 intermediates. The Yokos don't seem much better than the RE71s.

That is my limitation for tires. Lately, I have been hearing good things about the Yoko A032Rs.

Any and all information/suggestions appreciated.

I live in marin county. Where are you located? I run victo racers in the front and yoko a032r's in the rear on my 72. The victoracers are stickier than the yokos and will wear out faster. The reason I run this setup is because it balences out my car. The victoracers have gotten rid oy my understeer. The yokos are sticky but allow enough give so i can slide the rear end aroud just enough if i want. The victoracers are less forgiving. Once they break loose, they break loose hard. Tried the reverse setup and found this out the hard way as i almost side swiped a parked car.

FWIW everyone around here (NY area PCA) uses Kuhmos at auto-x.

Thumbs up

The Kumho Victoracer V700 is the tire of choice for our local PCA group. Word is that they grip like glue and once you switch back to street componds you will for sure wreck your car because of the difference in grip

Granted most of these cars are not daily drivers and the tires are usually good for 2 years with autocrosses, DEs, and limited street use. If you are not into the DEs or autocrosses probably 3 years.

My next tires are either Bridgestone RE730s or these Kumhos depending on how I think I will drive the car.

Most people get them from the Tire Rack and get them heat cycled at the same time.

Tires are the biggest decision in having a performance car and can make the most difference in the handling. It takes a lot of time and money in suspension work to equal the benefits of sticky meats!

Good luck,

I am in Sacramento County. I live in Folsom, work in Sac.

P.s. I like to go on "SCENIC" drives when ever there is a no-rain day in the Hills.
:-)

So if any one else is interested email me.

Wink

Don't know much about V700, but I currently have yoko A032R's all round and its the noisiest tire out there, if your not planning on burning them up on the track go with anything else.

I had to make a decision between the V700s and the Kumho Supra 712s, I opted for the 712s because of slightly longer tread life and I will use them more for street purposes plus the price was unbeatable for a performance tire ($78.00 each from Tirerack, delivered in 2 days). The 712s were also available in a heat cycled tire. I've only had them on the car several days but will be using them for autocross this year as well. Most of the guys in the Carolinas region SCCA use Kumho V700s because of the supreme stickiness. So far the 712s have been superb. I've run them through one of the parking lots we use for autox and could not believe the performance for the price...way to go...Kumho!
