Fuchs Cap question

Well, it looks like there are two kind of caps for Fuchs. The ones I just got have thicker sidewalls, and allen screws that hold the things in place. Trouble is, I don't know how you tighten those allen screws once the caps are in there. I'm sure this is a simple thing, but I'm guessing someone out there has done it.

Here's a link to a picture:

what are you doing with your old hand painted one?

pbs911 04-06-2001 03:41 PM

Jack,
Can't you just take the wheel off and then tighten the hex screws from the inside?

pacmyster 04-06-2001 04:23 PM

Jack is probably the only man alive who could pull that off... http://www.pelicanparts.com/ultimate/rolleyes.gif

Yep, those are anti-theft center cap locks. You are supposed to tighten them from the inside with the wheels off.

I had my center caps stolen once...not nice. Also had a (custom-cut) 911 car cover stolen once too. There is no honor among thieves.

Dare I ask were to procure such an item?

You take the wheel off, mount the center cap and tighten the setscrew from the inside. A pain but it makes the caps, somewhat theft-proof. If your as anal as I am, the bottom of the crest should point to the valve stem.

Well, that's what I suspected. It's a pain, but I guess the plus side is not having to remove them for track events. I bought them thinking they were the kind with painted crests, and that I was getting spares for the inevitable date when one of mine popped off.

And whoa! $97.50 each for the ones with the attached crest? I got these on ebay, and paid a lot less than that for all four. Good deal!
