My Carrera rolled over today (and member intro)

It's a funny thing: despite owning my car since May of last year, it wasn't until today that I took a few digital photos of it. I guess I was too busy driving it :), and as such, I never posted an introduction.
She's an '84 Carrera Targa, in Zinn Metallic (L956), with factory 16" fuchs, spoilers, Bilteins, and a sport steering wheel. She came to me bone stock (aside from a better alarm and stereo) after at least six previous owners, with about 179k on the odometer. I was planning an engine rebuild since my PPI showed some crazy leakdown on cylinder #2, but so far the engine hasn't shown any signs of weakness. In fact, I'm beginning to wonder if they screwed up the leakdown test somehow. She just keeps going and going...
As far as modifications are concerned, I'm still working on the "low hanging fruit" upgrades. So far I've removed the AC and installed a Fabspeed cat bypass and M&K Mutant deafener:D, as well as a BK strut brace and the targa body braces.
Well, here's a picture of her during my lunch break today. (She's a dirty girl - we've been playing in the snow the last few days)

Then, not a mile after that picture was taken, it happened:

I still can't believe she's done 200,000 miles... these cars are amazing!

Yep, 235K here and no rebuild. I know they can't go forever, though. Keep changin' that oil and happy motoring!

PS, glad the car didn't roll over.

A beautiful car! and a nice picture (both).

Have you noticed any unexpected or unintended consequences (positive or negative) from the Targa braces?

How much oil is the engine using. Never ignore a "crazy" leakdown figure.

When I saw the thread title, I expected a horrific picture of your 911

Glad to hear it was just the odometer.....

I couldn't tell if there was any difference. To be fair I had only been driving the car for a few weeks before I installed the braces so I probably didn't have a good feel for it's stiffness yet. The only downside to them is that they get in the way of my seat back adjustment knob. I'll probably be taking them out soon, but only because the harness bar I'm looking at mounts in the same place.

A quart every 750 miles, give or take. It doesn't drip oil (just weeps a bit), doesn't smoke, and the valves weren't really loose side to side when I adjusted them. I suppose I should have it tested again, but is it conceivable that some crud got stuck on the valve seat? Would the leak manifest itself in some other way?

Thanks for the compliments, the grime must be hiding all the rock chips!
I'm surprised nobody has pointed out dented valence and wipers parked on the wrong side :D

Nah that is battle scars, it means you driver her and not a garage fixture.

Wipers, I thought you moded to the reverse polarity and did a poor job of it. I did not want to mention it because some of my work is not perfect either.

LOL;)

OK, so you pulled over and took a picture at 200,000 miles. That is cool. I almost stopped for a photo of my odometer at 123456 miles. It will be a while before I get to 200,000.

Congrats. I just passed the 200k mark myself.

Compression was between 155 and 165 across all six when I bought it last year (at 187k).

I'm also going to keep driving it - I use about a quart/1000 miles, no smoke, and only a few leaks. Fingers crossed.

TRE did find a broken valve spring at my last service but I'm hoping that it's not a sign of more problems!
