I am trying to start my 3.0 for the first time. I want to make sure I have
Oil pressure before I start the engine. Right now I have the lead disconnected from the permatune box and have cranked the engine for about 30 seconds but do not see the Oil Pressure guge moving yet. I have about 9 qts of oil in the system. Will cranking the engine develop enough oil pressure to register on the gauge ?? Thanks Joe ------------------

I just went through this with mine today. The weather is teasing us a bit but it was nice to hear her run.
My version: I pulled the fuel pump relays (I have a turbo so I have 2) and cranked her until I saw some movement on the gage. I did this twice then reinserted the relays and within a few seconds I had a running 911 turbo. To answer your main question yes you should get a oil pressure reading fairly quickly. (I could tell I was straining the battery though, so crank her for a little while) david 89 turbocab waking up after a long winters nap! |

I also have the Fuel pump disconnected.
This engine has not been started in about 18 months. It also has all new oil lines. I guees it is taking a while for the lines to fill with oil. I will crank a liitle more tomorrow and see if I get a reading on the gauge. Hopefully the gauge is wired correctly. This is the 3.0 that is in my 914/6 conversion that I am running for the First time. ------------------
