The whole senario is actually sad. But we adapt, improvise, overcome

And, the standing joke around here for the last 15 years, is everything costs $50.00 !

wife- "How much did that cost?"

$50.00, etc, etc,. so now she finally has stopped asking.....

You are a co-conspirator in this heinous crime (against our beloved spouses)!!!!!. I've been meticulously hiding all my expenses from her since I got a Porsche. Then last summer, she decided to remodel the kitchen and replace the ref, oven, dishwasher, microwave, cabinet, flooring, etc. I told her they are all good and working. Why do we need to buy new appliances?

Her reply: Did I ever question you about your expenditures in your 911? I just walked away and dropped the subject. End of discussion. All this time, I thought I was getting away with my secret.

Words to live by... Happy wife, happy life.

I simply pay her off. Before I make a purchase, I gift her a comparable amount in "mad money". Then I go buy and there are no complaints.

I've simply learned to live with budgeting my hobbies at double the cost. Now I don't have to explain what I bought or what it cost.

HA, my wife does the finances, I make the money, she found out about the lengthy list of parts....the 911 is gone....so I am currently planting the bug in her mind that an M3 would be a sound investment and less expensive to maintain....muhahahahaaa

Well...technically speaking...ALL 911's here are half-owned by the wives.

This is exactly why you have somebody else buy your car stuff.

I've found the business account to be a great place to hide the Porsche purchases. But then they have to be reported as "personal expenditures" on the 1040 and are therefore taxable income. Which leaves my wife asking "How come if you made this much money, I'm not seeing it?"

Porsche Crest Getting Married????

DavidB911, I have to agree with Danny Ocean on this
I did that very thing, long ago, but I just celebrated my 18th year, being single again anniversary
I found that all it cost me was everything that I ever had!
It took a few years to gather up my toys again.

Good luck, if you go down that path.

i actually decided to build my rsr clone (and now the swb to 911r project) in part assuming that when i get married i would never be able to justify the cost to my wife. even if my wife was cool with the time/financial cost of these projects i would feel guilty about the vacations, savings etc.. that would be put off until these projects are done. i wouldn't want the porsche to be the reason why jr. is not going to college! maybe i should get married - do you guys think marrage is cheaper than porsches?

pelican should offer the option when ordering to get the shipment delivered in a box with no pelican logos, maybe have a separate billing company name for the credit card statement. if the purchases showed up as some charity or fictional utility company.

Virtually all of my expenses come from my bonuses which then go into my "Weasel Fund'. However the eyebrow still gets raised as Pelican boxes arrive.

Boyz, overall, we are one devious subset.....

Quick story...
I used to sell high end home theatres in Greenwich CT...you know, 30, 50, 100K stuff.

So, one day, a guy walks in with his wife and she's wearing a tennis bracelet watch, with a treasure chest's worth of diamonds. When he first walked in he said something like, "Just left the jewelers, and now it's my turn...I'm thinking about a home theater..". I glanced at the watch from time to time, and it's looking like a ton of $$. (and I like watches and see "value" in 10K watches, LOL)

So we talk about what he wants, and I tell him I'll do a proposal. A few days later he and I are in the conference room, and he's looking it over.

He says, "Looks like it's exactly what I asked for, but I'm curious...how did you decide to settle on a $50K proposal, instead of a $20 or a $100K version?"

Gulp (Normally you'd say something about needing to spend that much to get what he wants, and anything more is not a good value)

But...he seemed like a bottom line guy, so I threw caution to the wind.

"I got the impression that that tennis bracelet watch was about this much".

And he replies with, "Ahhh...you are perceptive. When can you start?"
LOL.

So, those of you using the "Equilization method" seem to have it figured out.

Me? I'm single, but my girlfriend gets all wigged out if I talk about cars, watch any car thing on TV, or spend ANY time in the shop, because she thinks that it's an attempt to spend less time with her. So couples problems come in all sizes and shapes.

Work shipment is my usual M.O. as well. But, she still spots the boxes in the garage and gives me the "what now" look. All in all, she is very understanding.

I firmly believe that hidden investments in the Porsche will ultimately have a huge balloon payment.

Better to be up front and honest.
