tips to "aiming" the ball joints into strut? (+help me find old tyson tip)

i am in the middle of a project. all new polybronze bushings, new ball joints...i can see the light at the end of this horrific tunnel. any good tips to getting the ball joints pressed into the bottom of the strut perfectly? i seem to remember fussing (rhymes with "cussing) with the wedge pin if the ball joint isnt perfect oriented into the strut.

also, there was a thread/tip posted by tyson on setting the ride height almost perfect on the fronts. something about counting threads on the adjuster or something? i want something easier than taking on and off the front wheels to adjust repeatedly. getting weary. heheh.

thanks guys;
cliff

then i am off to do the rears, and they should be easier by comparison.

Hey Vash,

I would test fit the ball joints into the struts before trying to mount the A arms to make sure they slide in there easily. I didn't do this and had a helluva time getting one of them in after I had fitted the A arm to the car.

Try to line up the notch for the wedge pin with the hole in the strut before sliding it up in there and it should stay fairly straight. If it's off slightly, you can align slightly with a punch to get the wedge pin in.

Good luck, and the rears are NOT easier!
