car seat in my SC?

Dont tell #1 but I am plotting to take the baby on a DE run. No, but seriously I have a 2yr old and she loves the "Potia" as much as I do I think! So I want to know what if any of you do for affixing a car sat. I have the rear belts in my car but I am not sure if that is great plac to stuff a 2 yr old, I can think of a plethora of reasons like extraction in case of an accident to she might scuff the leather with her feet! So what do other Dads do or er uh Moms (if there are any that do this) do?

thanks for any input.

PS I have factory sport seats in my SC as well. Oh and the reason I havent checked it is becuse the rig is in storage, its freakin freezing here and there is about 3 feet of snow on the ground..

The car seat I have in my SC works great. Very secure. Passenger seat gets pushed forward a little and footprints need to be wiped off the back of the seat, but a fun ride for everyone. I tend to get envious looks when doing the occasional daycare drop off or pickup duty
Children's car seat that fits, with tether mount

I would reconsider based on the fact that a 28 year old car is not the safest car to drive on the street in an era of larger cars/suvs. Sorry, but this is a big reason I bought a dedicated tow vehicle to tow to the track.

DE? Olivia went to a DE when she was 2. She fell asleep during a parade lap:

Seriously, since you don't have an airbag to worry about, the passenger seat could work. The car seat fits well and there is lots of access. On the other hand, the windshield is pretty close. Hmm.

I have seen a few 911s that were in serious high speed wrecks and the interior is very protected. very minor intrusion on both high speed roll/impacts I have seen. But I of course will not drive like a maniac with my child in there, its more for joyrideing and I am a stay-at-home Dad till she is in school so I need to get my driving in while I am with Her all day.

Go for it! I love sharing the pleasure of riding in a 911 with my 3 daughters. For a couple of years, I had morning day care drop off for 2 of them. For you Seattle area guys, this was a daily commute on Ames Lake Rd and Union Hill, fantastic winding roads. I had 2 car seats in the back, and my daughters absolutely loved it. It is a job to get the right car seats, and to get them securely. Most of the newer seats have too wide of a base to fit in the back seats. A search will return a number of threads detailing specific model seats which fit well, as well as a number of different good ways to properly secure them.
When my youngest daughter was old enough to finally be out of a rear facing seat, her first forward facing ride was NOT in the Honda Odyssey, it was in the 911. She was totally amazed, and absolutely loved it. Plus its great to have your kids so close behind you. You can actually talk to them w/o yelling to the back of the minivan. I really enjoy my 911 and want to share that joy with my children. Given the choice my girls would always rather ride in the "little white car" than any of the others.

Hi, I'm in process of doing the same thing on my 81 SC (it has rear lap belts). Can you post a couple of pics of how you attached the LATCH belts to the existing seat belt mount and possibly how you routed the lap belt? I think I get it but not positive.

thanks,

mike

I am thinking about the same thing. My son is only ten months and still in the cradle seat, but I am still looking at a cool car seat. Yes it is a Recaro.

My son's been riding along since he's been forward facing (rear facing is difficult to fit in back), daughter doesn't need a booster in back (but gets one for the front seat if mommy isn't coming along). We use the 911 for family outings for the 4 of us ... works out great, except costco runs are out

I did have to install an aftermarket lap belt so I could tighten the belt up properly around the car seat.

Got any pics of your setup? Also, who makes the aftermarket belt?

Recaro kid seat... cool! wish I had the spare cash for one of those, wonder how they fit in the back of a 911?... please don't tell me they just drop in

Actually, the two I'm looking at are quite cheap, the Cosco High Back Booster and the Cosco Scenera are both about $50 and at Target, come in blue which matches my interior. Both are quite narrow and look like they might be a decent fit.

I have the Recaro seat for my 3 year old boy and if any of you are planning to buy one, the kid will need to be centered in the car as it pushes out pretty far.
You'll need a larger than average car that has great rear leg room.
Also, the seat is very heavy, your trophy wives may have a problem with this if it needs to be removed.
As a positive, it is seriously built strong and I have 100% confidence using it for everyday use.
Sadly I don't think it will fit in back of an older 911. I'll take it out and see if it fits in back, I have an 87 cab.

When I saw this thing on line I had to have it for my 17 month old son, We ordered 2 on line and its really great. As someone mentioned I dont see it fitting in a 911.

I didn't have rear seatbelts, so I bought a Universal fit lap belt from Autozone. I installed the universal lap belt and ran it through the rear base of the car seat per the instructions. I ran an additional LATCH belt a little towards the front of the car seat to help snug it up tight towards the back of the car. This is LATCH belt is clipped to the Universal seatbelt mounting hardware. The tether is connected on top, everything is pulled tight with a knee in the seat. It doesn't budge.

I have an Eddie Bauer seat with removable base that fits perfectly with the base removed; using only the lap belt; and it's secure. Only problem is my daughter puts her feet on the back of my new seats.

If you want a pic, let me know, I can probably eek one out this weekend.

Hey, the key is the width of the seat. Try a Graco ComfortSport. Worked for me but the front seats do need to move forward substantially.

BTW, kudos to the creator of the custom brackets above for the tether!

NJSC - I realize this mightbe a hassle but, would it be possible at some point to send me the dimensional location of the hole you added for the rear tether? Someday I'd like to add a 3 point belt but would rather not buy one now just to get the location of the hole.

thanks!

Mike
