Need help dropping front suspension on my '70
I've removed the front a-arm attachment points (replaced the pan) and have also removed the 6 bolts holding the crossmember to the pan and steering rack. i swear there is nothing else holding this thing in but it just won't drop.
My problem is i need to get the a-arms out of the way enough to grind the back side of my welds flat and to POR and undercoat my pan. From searching old threads i get the impression it may be necessary to separate the ball joint; if this is avoidable i'd be pretty darned happy! This project has gone on so darn long i'd really like to wrap it up and get to driving my damned car. i'll do front bushings and such next winter (or this summer if it gets too hot). Thanks for the help- Erik

are you trying to just remove the a arms, or the whole assembly including the crossmember? If just the a arms, then you must pull out t bars and separate ball joint, if other, then you have to take the top 3 bolts holding the struts off and the whole assembly will hit the floor. An easier and better way!

It may be stuck on the two alignment pins (cross member) Get something up in there and pry it down.

Thanks guys.
Does the top of the strut only attach one way or is there room for adjustment? i'm wondering if i will be REALLY throwing off my alignment doing that.
