Does anyone know if the '73 RS Carrera used a different speedo to the '72/'73 2.4S? I saw an RS the other day that was fitted with a mechanical 180 mph vdo speedo (pre-'74 type with silver 'button' in centre) but don't remember whether this was standard. This would seem to make sense as the top speed was claimed to be over 150mph.

Andy,
Yes, the RSs and RSRs came with either the 180 mph or 300 kph speedos. ------------------ Warren Hall 1973 911S Targa |

The '73 Carrera RS had a 300 speedo, but the first few (about 200) had a 250 Km/h. Mine, n. 193 has a 250.

Hi Roland,
I see we probably have the same book on RSs... ;-) Yes the car still has the original engine and gearbox. It is completely original, plus some rust. It is my next resto project, after the orange '76 3.0 on the gallery. I will bring it to "as left the factory" condition, which will be easy as it's all there. Regards, George |

Hello
I don´t have the book but i knew Dr. K personaly and we both share similar sources. One fine day i will have the money for the book or we trade something. Aren´t you interesstet in geting the correct RS watch ? Finding a good unbutcherd and original car is geting hard. 90% from them where "restored" and mostly fakes for fast money. Grüsse BTW i worked on Acrylblauviolettmetallic. Easy to find in the color section. |

Hi Roland,
actually I believe the 250 Km/H speedo in my car is the original, and the data in the Gruber/Konradsheim book coroborate this. You're absolutely right. Only maybe 1 out of 100 restored RSs is absolutely original. I really plan to restore it as was when new. Regards, George |
