Metallic chink noise sometime when you brake

on my '78 SC sometimes when I press the brake pedal I get this metallic chink sounding noise from the front, I can't work out why. It will never happen twice in a row. I can't feel any sign of rotor warping and couldn't see any when I did a visual. Has anyone experienced this before?

How many miles do you have on your brakes?
do you notice any ridges on your rotors?

check the fit of the pads in the caliper. if they have up and down play, that may be your noise.

What about the linkage to the brake booster ... play that could cause a squeak/chink, depending on how hard it gets taken up?
