Question Oil Change

This may be the simplest of all questions but I am curious how often I should change my oil. I have heard people say from every 3K to every 10K. I run regular oil (non synthetic) and use the car on weekend. I drive about 6,000 miles a year. For my situation what do you all recommend? I have an 80 SC with 96,000 miles.

Thanks.

My 2 cents: Every 3,000 miles or every 6 months. What ever comes first. Mobil 1 is the best oil in my mind. Change filter at the same time also.

Thumbs up

I agree with lsolon, he makes a good recommendation for you situation.

I read a Consumer Report several years ago about "Motor Oils". They tested many of the major brands in NYC Taxis, rent cars, stop and go driving, and highway driving.

Their conclusion: there is no need to change engine oil before 7,500 miles.

My position: I drive my car as often as possible. I change my oil and filter every 5,000 miles. This is very easy to keep track of every time the clock hits a 5 or a 0. It is also easy to tell how deep you are since the last change. I feel the SC's oil consumtion and the occasional top off also serve to freshen the oil between changes.

Remember it is the oil companies that recomond changing at 3k.

Back to your situation take lsolon's advice.

THE END
