Okay Jack, shes probably not Black Beauty, but I think she's quite pretty!
I've just put a front RSR replica front air-dam on and used 2 pack paint for the first time, and I'm really happy with the results. The colour is "Acid Blue", it is a Porsche colour, but I'm not sure from what. Do you think I should add a ducktail to the rear to even it out, or keep Butzi's lines? I just figured everyone else was posting photos, so I wanted to join in....now if I can just get this linking stuff right! www.cheaterswayside.com/911/gallery.asp?sort=0&userid=286 www.cheaterswayside.com/uploads/apr10286.jpg ![]() [This message has been edited by Fishcop (edited 04-09-2001).] |

Very nice, John! For me, that paint color is very close to the '60s Chrysler 'Corporate Blue' ... which was one way of saying Petty blue, a very nice color indeed! Is 2-pack paint a catalyzed product like epoxy or polyurethane?

Nice! I'd go with a ducktail, or even the Whaletail from the 3 liter Carrera. Gorgeous blue!

Thanks for the compliments.
Yes Warren, by "2 pack" I meant the combination of paint and hardener. The brand in this case was "Spartan" (Glasuriut was too dear). I've done a lot of painting with acrylic before on race bikes and other project cars, but this is a really special car to me, and I really wanted the best look I could achieve. I thouroughly recomend these style of paints, they are extremely expensive and you'll need a good gun and compressor, but the result "off the gun" is terrific. BUT you must use some form of respirator or painting mask as I understand the chemicals involved are very bad for you. I'm thinking a duck tail rather than a tail from a later car Jack. I suspect our tastes are similar in that I want the car to look "period", but a later engine (probably a 2.8 copy) in the not too distant future is definitely on the cards. It's just so much harder over here to source stuff, and our Australian "half" dollar is no match for the greenback! Cheers |

John,
That is truly a beautiful car. Very bold. Is that the color that someone referred to as "jelly-bean blue" in an earlier post? Good job. Mark ------------------ Mark B. Wilson 1970 911E mbwilson@home.com http://www.marksobsessions.20m.com/ |

Mark, thanks for the tips on posting the photo. Yes I'm pretty sure that this may be what they call "jellybean blue" although I chose the colour as "acid blue" from an automotive refinisher's catalogue. There were some other colours listed that were similar, and you have no idea just how many colours Porsche has produced over the years until you sit down and try to go through them!

Very nice looking car. The color is great and the front bumper looks super. To Bad your not on this side of the Ocean because that is definately an RGruppe kind of car and would look great with the rest of them up in Cambria in May. Anybody on this board going up to Cambria in May?

Why did you post that?
I've had my heart set on a stock red paint job sometime this summer or maybe sooner--I have it all planned to get it back to the original color. But that jellybean blue just looks wayyyyy too cool. I can't imagine my machine with that. I'd have to definitely dump the tan interior, but that looks very sleek-- I don't know if I've got the nuts to actually strip down and repaint everything, but if I did, that color would be high on my list. ------------------ Kurt B '84 Carrera Cab. carrera_cabriolet@yahoo.com |

Kurt, it's not such a big deal to strip it all down (well that's bull....), but it's worth it to have somthing unique. The interior is the next thing, I've put some carrera seats but I cant decide on going the full leather treatment or a spartan light weight special....

Let's face it, that color does look sweet. I just put in new carpet and a new top...and I dread doing it all over again.
With the fiasco painting my tail has become (just tons of work), I know I can't do it myself...then you put your car in the hands of a guy who 1) if he knows what he's doing, it's going to cost or 2) will f it up, get paint on the carpet, on the cab top too! So all in all, it's a lot to think about...and I have time to think about all the options. ------------------ Kurt B '84 Carrera Cab. carrera_cabriolet@yahoo.com |
