Which is larger - RSA or Carrera tail?
Easy, quick, and just this...
Have never seen the RS America tail side-by-side with the Carrera. I understand that the Ruf YB/CTR tail was slightly more aggressive than the stock Carrera version. What are the major differences? Thanks. Chris |
Sorry Chris, I am certainly no expert, just a fan of both the RSA and the 3.2 Carrera. My understanding, and others more knowledgeable may correct me, is that the tails on both car are one and the same.

All the info you need regarding the RSAmerica tail! |
Interesting link, ActionDad. So they are the same size as the 3.2 tail, but are painted body colour on the grill and have no provision for the rear wiper.

Everytime I go to that site I end up looking at RS Americas...and then pricing them and trying to figure out how I could justify buying one! Trouble!

For all intensive purposes, the RS America tail is identical in function to the Carrera whaletail. The splitting of hairs on the RS America tail webpage is inconsequential in my opinion as far as functionality, but the page is indeed handy to take note of the detail differences.
As far as maintenance goes, I would prefer the RS America tail because of the solid body color louvers. The matte black color on the Carrera tails fades with age and is a PITA as far as i'm concerned, trying to keep the matte finish and painted finish looking nice. Take it a step further and if I had my choice, I would consider an aftermarket quality tail that is ALL fiberglass. Then there's no hassle with matte finish paint and keeping the rubber lip nice. Problem is, the construction of the grille beneath the louvers wouldn't be as nice as the factory grille mesh which is very solid. There's positives and negatives to each of them. If I were to rank them: 1. RS America (monochrome paint with rubber lip) 2. MA Shaw fiberglass Carrera/RS America wing (easy maintenance but less solid than factory) 3. Carrera (more work to keep nice-looking) |
I like the Shaw RSA tail because it's really light, 9# total

ActionDad,
Thank you for the very complete info. This was exactly what I needed to know. As for the rest of you, thanks also. I have been looking at both the Getty and the MA Shaw RSAs for awhile. The tea-trays and RS3.8s both scream, "TICKET ME!". This is not what I want from a street wing. Thanks for helping me decide. Chris |
Chris, it's my pleasure. It is always good to be able to justify, no matter how dubiously, the hours I spend (waste?) pouring over the P-car info I dredge up on-line!
