Amplifier under right front seat-replace?

Hello,
My 82 SC with the original Blaupunkt AM/FM cassette player has an amplifier (I assume) under the front seat. Anyone know how much power it puts out?

Reason for asking: To reduce weight, I'd like to pull it and replace the whole audio unit with a more modern one with appropriate power outputs to drive the stock 4 speaker set up.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Does it have an amp? You wrote that you assume.....
I think the head unit powered the speakers by itself.

I bet that's your lambda computer for the O2 system feedback loop on your fuel injection.

My '84 had an old mobile cell phone installed when I bought it. The 'box' was mounted under the passenger seat. I've removed that but there is still an antenna cable running back to an antenna on the rear window.

Does the radio work and do you what to sell it.?

Thanks LM

My 82sc with the original radio needs an amp to power the speakers, but it is located in the trunk. It's pretty obvious- I'm sure you would notice it.

Oh...

OK, guess I won't rip out the computer for the 02 sensor.

Guess I'll keep the period radio/cassette player.

Scott,
That radio is out of a 944 Turbo. It has no amp (but it really needed one).

I meant to say

That iis under the RIGHT front seat. Does that make a difference?

Paul, you did a great job with the suspension reconditioning. Several of my more experienced PCA buddies have commented on both the cleanliness and tightness of the car.

First, that's likely an owner-added amplifier, since Porsche didn't put one there. Second, if you are trying to use the stock speakers, I think you will be wasting your time. They just aren't good enough to make any decent sound; nor are any replacements of the same size. TO get decent sound quality you need larger speakers and amplification. Lot's of amplification....

Lastly, if you are trying to shed weight, I hope there are many other parts you are changing, as deleting one amplifier won't even be noticed.

As a matter of fact, I did. So, what's your point?

It's not an amplifier, it's his lambda O2 computer.

He doesn't have an amplifier in his car. :)
