According to this site and your VIN, you have a 74 targa, not a Carrera.

No such thing as a 2.7 Carrera. There was a limited edition Carrera 3.0 and the Carreras from 84-89. There was a 2.7 RS.....

Here is a 74 Carrera Targa all decked out. I am not sure this is even a real one. I did not read the website in depth.
Viper Green - 1974 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa - Black Interior | GTcarlot.com - Vehicle Archive #218904 Yours is probably a regular 911 and you would need to order parts for that model. My $1,400 offer still stands. :-) |

You have a standard 2.7 with the lower 145 hp motor, small port size. There is also the USA version 911s and carrera with the higher hp motor. Both USA versions are cis injection , NOT the mfi 210 hp euro S and Carrera type

Previous owner(s) put the Carrera badge on the engine cover...perhaps they thought the car would go faster with it on :=)

For the most part the cars are the same. In 1974 Porsche produced the 911, 911S and 911 Carrea are all pretty much the same. The 911S and Carrera nearly identical except the Carrera engine produces slightly more horsepower, has the flares and wider wheels and sport seats. Everything else is nearly identical. In fact the S and Carrera are so close the owners manual is 911S and Carrera.

I guess not all Carreras having made it to the US adds to some of the confusion...
1973 Carrera RS: 2.7 l - 207 bhp - coupe only 1974/1975 ROW Carrera: 2.7 l - 207 bhp - coupe and targa (still the RS engine) US Carrera: 2.7 l - 173 bhp/163 bhp - coupe and targa (S engine) 1976/1977 ROW Carrera: 3.0 l - 197 bhp - coupe and targa 1984-1989 ROW Carrera: 3.2 l - 228 bhp - coupe, targa, convertible (no cat) 3.2 l - 204 bhp - coupe, targa, convertible (cat, '84/'85) 3.2 l - 214 bhp - coupe, targa, convertible (cat, '86-'89) US Carrera: 3.2 l - 204 bhp - coupe, targa, convertible (cat) Quote:

As you will have noticed, around here you get a lot of right answers, with quite a few wrong ones thrown in, for good measure.
![]() My suggestion would be to get your hands on a couple things. One, would be to find a copy of the Porsche technical specifications booklet for the 1974 911s. There's a great deal of useful information in those. You'll probably have to buy a used copy. Just place a WTB ad in the classifieds section. The other would be to buy a copy of what Porsche calls PET. It's a software disc that has all of the parts ordering info for Porsche cars. The last one I got cost all of 5 bucks. You can look up exactly what part numbers you need, which makes it a lot easier to order parts from Pelican, as you just enter the part numbers in a box in the upper left corner of any page here and it finds them. I am assuming that you have an owner's manual for your car. If not, look for one of those as well. JR |
