Anything Special About Replacing Horns?
On my 1973.5T I am replacing the two horns (low and high tone trumpet design) this weekend in the left front fender well. With a quick glance last night it looks lime some funky kind of electrical fitting - hook up. It will probably be a piece of cake, but who ever said, working on a Porsche was a "piece of cake"?!
Anyone been there done that? Thanks Bob 73.5T Sepia of:cool: course |
Should just be the standard female to male spade connections. A little tight to work in the fender, job is easier with the front tire removed and car carefully and safely on a jack stand ( don't want to hear about any mishap on Monday). Should only take a 1/2 hour unless the nuts are gummed up with road grim or undercoating.

Be aware that Hella now gets its "OEM" horns made in China, and they're junk.

If you're replacing just one horn, careful which one you r&r. Only one of mine was working, based on the high pitched sound I figured I needed the low tone horn. I was wrong - I needed the high tone horn, as it turns out ... now I have 2 low tone horns humming their high pitched sound with a slight beat.

Read the posts on adding a Carrera front oil cooler or the technical article. The horns typically have to be relocated for this project and there are photos inculded. Not a difficult job to work on them. I replaced mine with a $15 hockey puck set to gain clearance for the oil cooler and they work fine.

I replaced the ones on my SC with WOLO dual trumpet horns. They were the same size as the originals, used the same mounting too.

Appreciate the responses.
I found a pair of "working" OEM trumpet horns (hign low tone) made for early 911's on ebay a few months ago, so I bought them. My horns work, but with the trumpet portion broke on both, it sounds more now like I am choking a duck!! Bob |
