Dave, I don't believe my tensioners have collapsed. I can compress my right-side tensioner between my thumb and forefinger. The left side is rock solid.

Can I conclude the right-side tensioner is defective?

I don't know what to say. When I replaced my tensioners, both were rock solid. No compression by hand. My right chain had enough tension to compress the failed tensioner. Can it be that the chain is stretched? But why would you be able to compress the tensioner by hand?

Must be all that working-out? Vice-like forearms!

Who knows? I'll report back next week when I change-out my tensioners. $450 is a small price to pay for some piece of mind. And if that doesn't do the trick, then I'll have a pair of perfectly good used tensioners up for sale.

Got to keep smiling.

Consider checking your timing after you replace the tensioners. It was advised when I did mine. BTW, Grady Clay says to rebuild the OEM tensioners. He seems to trust them more than the new ones. DOH!

Good luck!!!!

Zef, I read your post.. how did you resolve the problem in the end? Did you change-out both the tensioners and the chains?

I replaced the timing chains, the cam sprockets and the ramps. I timed the cams and adjusted the valves. With the help of Wayne engine book..it was an easy and very instructive job.

Yes, your right side tensioner is not working. Maybe there is something inside keeping the check ball valve from seating/sealing? You might try disassembling it, cleaning it out and reassembling it.
If you do get new tensioners, don't assume that they are good working tensoiners. I and other's have gotten brand new defective tensioners.
