Uneven brake pad wear

The right front pads (10K miles) are both worn heavily on the leading and trailing edges. Still plenty of pad but worn at 45 degrees on the edges. I have seen pads wear quickly with a stuck piston but I have never seen wear like this on both edges and both pads. Any ideas? Thanks Tom 1982 SC

Have the calipers been recently rebuilt? Sounds like the caliper pistons need to be set with the 20 degree tool. Have a look at the tech article on rebuilding calipers and it shows you how to set the pistons and how to make the 20 degree tool. This can be a bit tricky, but make sure you have the rotor rotation correct when setting the angle.
When you look at the tech article, you'll see what I mean.

uneven pad wear

Thanks. I was just at that article and was wondering if that was the problem. I checked the pistons and they are at 2 different angles. Will set about making a template. Thanks again!! This is my first post -- had the SC about 6 months.
One more question -- can you set the angle without removing the dust boot?

It might be possible but I doubt it. I'd order a rebuild kit, pop out the pistons, put in the new seals and then put the boots on after you get them set to the correct angle. If the calipers haven't been done in a couple years, you're better off just doing the rebuild. That way you're good to go for a while.....unless you plan to track the car!

OH , welcome to Pelican. Time to post a picture of the car.

Sounds good -- that's the route I will take.

Will post a pic too.
