Dash speaker for 69
I am looking for a fresh speaker for the dash of my 69 911E. I am going to keep the stock radio for now, but would like to find a new speaker. It seems like an odd size at 4x9, and I can't seem to find it listed in the Crutchfield catalog. Go figure.
Any ideas? Thanks, Ron |
I am pretty sure Blaupunkt do direct replacements. Check www.blaupunkt.com

Ron,
I put two JBL 3.5's in my center speaker hole of my 73. I constructed a small mount out of sheet aluminum to hold the speakers. They sound pretty good. http://www.geocities.com/william_armentrout/head_unit.html Check out www.crutchfield.com for a stock replacement. If they don't have one, I don't know who would. Yep, it is a weird size and although I didn't look too hard, I didn't find any direct replacements. Similar to Bill's approach, I put a 4x6" coax Blaupunkt there, and cut a little plywood filler plate to cover the remaining opening. (This is a test fitting before I cleaned it up better and painted it black.) Works very well.

I have a 70 911T which I just replaced the speaker on the center dash. I actually went to a local Wal Mart & bought a single Pioneer speaker. The fitment was for a broad range of European models. In any event it fits good but not perfect. I can screw down two of the holes but not all four of them. At least it's not moving. This may be a good solution if you're on a budget or just needed a speaker like I did. Most of the time my stereo is off anyway.

Anyone figure out a source for the 4x9 speakers?
