Angry Windshield leaks

Gentlemen I have a dilema with which I hope you all can help. My 87 coupe windshield leaks in both lower corners and seems to drip in by running down the exterior of the glass, into the seal channel, under the windshield and the back up over the inside seal lip. Should I replace my w/s seal, replace my seal and use some sort of sealer(what type??), or simply use some sort of sealer on the current w/s seal. Hope you all can help as I don't care for water in my cabin!!

If your windshield seal is in good condition, I would take the windshield & seal our & reinstall them using sealant. If you have to replace the seal, I think I saw reference on this forum about a "wide lip" seal. Search past threads. You're lucky you have a car with galvanized panels. In the pre-galvanized cars, leaks like that can rust out the corner areas of the windshield, & the sides of your dash (under your dash pad)and the rear package tray if the real window seal leaks.

I had the same problem. I lifted the seal and dried it out with compressed air then used a flowable silicone sealant from the local auto parts shop to seal it. So far it hasn't leaked again. If you don't want to do it yourself, my guess is that any competent autoglass shop could do it for you.

silicone sealant won't bond to the rubber. have a glass shop pump some 3M windowweld on both sides of the rubber. it's a real messy job, best done by pros. no sense taking it out if the seal looks ok.
