H4 Protection

It appears as though replacement lenses for H4 headlamps are hard to get, or impossible. True?

If so, then it becomes fairly important to protect them from rock chips. There appears to be two strategies for this. One is the plastic covers. The other is the sticky film. What is the best strategy and why?

I bought the sticky film from Griots Garage for my new spendy H4s about 8 years ago. I also bought a spare kit of 2 film sheets for backup.

The film is totally clear. It disappears on your glass lens. I covered my headlights and the foglights. 8 years later, the lenses are still pit free, totally clear, and the film is still doing it's job. great stuff.

I want to hear from others. Sticky stuff.......or plastic covers?

And also, can we verify that replacement lenses are made of Unobtainium?

Friends don't let friends drive with plastic covers, but I am sure I will shortly be corrected. I also have the 3M headlight-grade protective film on my H-4s, and fogs, and only wish it was available for my windshield. Great stuff and no one knows its there - other than me. (If they get that close, they better being wearing a condom.)

someone correct me if I'm wrong, but it looks like Pelican lists the H4 lenses at about $43 bucks. I don't know if this is the correct part or year
