All you happy campers who , like me, have been enjoying the free service of photopoint will soon have to pay for that service!!!!
So does anyone know of a similar web page where we can post pics so that they can be viewed here?. Pasting a pic here can be advantagious to troubleshooting problems or even just spending quality time pondering how we can make our cars as sexy as Jack Olsens (as if we could ![]() Thanks Ben |

A lot of the free webspace providers, like xoom.com (now nbci.com), angelfire.com, and others now have software that prevents you from accessing a .jpg or .gif without going through a link on a .html page hosted on their site. This allows them to be able to always get their ad banners displayed.
It's common now for ISPs to provided a few Mbytes of free webspace, along with some simple tools for uploading files. |

Thanks Mark,
we are all enjoying the hard efforts you have put in to this site, but I was thinking more for the odd engine part pics etc that we do not wish to clutter up the site with!. When we wish to check out the odd car, 1 or 2 pics open quicker than a whole series of pits and peices of engines!. Plus of course the odd humerous pics from leland etc. if anyone has any other suggestions? Am sure i'm not alone on this one! rgds Ben |

Well if you're a paid memeber of Rennlist you have the option of some free web-space. A small price to pay.
Don't most servers provide their accounts with some space? ------------------ Dan Tolley 1987 911 Coupe http://www.cheaterswayside.com/911/gallery.asp?sort=0&userid=294 |

Admittedly, it's more than most people need or want to pay for -
- but if you get a cable modem or DSL, and you have a Macintosh, you can host the pictures (or a dozen websites) on your own computer. The big (up to 20 meg) in-car lap videos on my rennlist site actually reside on the computer that sits on my desk. It's very simple, and with Apple's wireless networking, I can be out in the garage with the laptop on the passenger seat, snapping pictures of the car and having them be available on the web within seconds -- without even having to get out of the car. Now, with a cellular modem, come to think of it, I'd never have to come home at all... ------------------ Jack Olsen 1973 911 T (3.6) sunroof coupe jackolsen@mediaone.net [This message has been edited by JackOlsen (edited 04-12-2001).] |

Any properly set-up Wintel, Linux, FreeBSD or UNIX-flavored box will work just dandy. You may run into headaches if your ISP/DSL provider uses DHCP or NAT so you don't have a static IP address. Your posts (by IP address) will become inaccessible if your IP address changes. |

Fair enough, Chris. I know pretty much zip about PCs. It's just that when I explain about web hosting to my Windows friends, I just get blank stares. The advantage of the Mac, I think, is that a thechnological simp like me can make it work.
And equally off topic: Whenever I think I should get all crazy ambitious with my life, all I have to do is look at David Griswold's photo pages. The immediate result is, "No way -- I'll never get anywhere close to that." Not only has he restored, re-invented and improved on at least three 911s, he's also got a house out of Architectural Digest, a beautiful family, a pair of identical 5-series BMWs, and a couple of other cool cars, too. It lets me go back to lying around the house in my boxers, yelling at the old lady to bring me another six-pack, and laughing out loud at reruns of Behind the Music on VH1. ------------------ Jack Olsen 1973 911 T (3.6) sunroof coupe jackolsen@mediaone.net [This message has been edited by JackOlsen (edited 04-12-2001).] |

A BTM moment - Cass Elliott with her brand new late sixties 911. Anyone else catch that?

Hi,
I use www.auctionwatch.com to host images for auctions on ebay. The image hosting is free but they recently started charging to launch the auctions. I hope that this helps. Adam White 68 912. |
