Brake pads for '89 3.2, 99% street use?

All:

I just got an email from Pelican saying the Metal-master pads are back ordered. What is the next best thing?

Thanks in advance,

Paul.

Paul,

I'm a big fan of Mintex pads for street use.

I prefer them hands-down, over Metalmasters.

Anybody used Hawk brake pads?

I know PP doesn't sell them, just wondering since they were highly regarded for my other car.

I've used Hawk HP+ for auto-cross for years. Very good on the street also in that they have excellent bite on the first stop, i.e., they work well at low-temperatures. They are also easy to modulate. They will fade under track use.

They are somewhat dusty and do squeal a bit when used lightly - one hard application and the squeal goes away.

The Mintex pads on my current car work pretty well, but seem to lack the first stop grip of the HP+ pads. Different cars, so maybe it's just a brake booster difference. I'll be switching to HP+ when the Mintex wear out and wil try to post my observations.

My own personal experience was with the HPS pads, and they did fade....at the Nurburgring on my tarted up WRX. Figured it was a cooling issue.

Where is this P-car tax? Brake pads for my Subaru are more expensive than for my Carrera!

I think the "first stop" issue could be the brake pads need to be hot in order to work. At least that seems logical.

I like PBR Ceramic pads. They are not too expensive, stop well, and so far I have not melted them or anything. They do make a lot of dust, but what performance pads don't?

I've been using the Porterfield R4-S for the street and I really like them (low dust, no noise, good bite). I switch to the R4 for the track, which is also a great pad.
