Question Brake pad wear?

Hi Guys,

Send my Carrera in for a lube service and was told my front brake pads were finito. I had new disks and pads fitted 12000km ago and granted as it's my weekend toy I burn it pretty hard but it still seems pretty quick to me and I haven't spend much time on the track. What kind of wear do you get on your brake pads and which do you recommend?
My rear pads are about 40% worn and will probably be replaced at the next service.

Do you have the wear sensors in?

Have you checked the pads yourself?

I seem to recall getting quite a bit better brake pad wear from mine. I have only changed my pads once in the last three years. I have put about 15000 miles on my front pads, I don't know what the PO got out of them.

Good luck

it's got brake sensors on them but I can't say I looked if they had come on when I send the car in, I guess I never thought they were even remotely finished as all my other cars run 30000+ km before replacement. The sensors cost 70% of the price of a pair of brake pads is it really worth fitting them. ( pads were R330,- and sensor R238,- plus labour and VAT)

Many have said to replace the sensors at the same time. However, I have not. Of course, I replaced my pads within three days of the brake warning light first coming on, and I determined it was my drivers side front that made my brake warning light turn on.

First you will want to know if your sensors work. I believe these are simple ground sensors (i.e. they ground themselves on the rotors and the brake warning light turns on, HOW they STAY ON I don't know).

I know my sensors work. I replaced the pads, put the original sensors in the pads and all is well.

Have you looked at your pads?
How do they look?
I compared my sensors protruding from my pad vs other new pads.
When the sensors light the brake light, it looks like there is still quite a bit of pad left (1/4 of pad?) however, if you keep running the pads, then you will NEED to replace your sensors.

Who told you that you need pads in the front?
Was it your P-mech?
Some brake/tire jockey?

Good luck.
