Unhappy Major Carnage avoided, by pure luck!

So, by chance I took a few days off for a family matter that ended up not being that big of a deal...So I figure why not put that Chain Tensioner upgrade on that's been sitting in my garage for MONTHS!

So I dig in.... Get the left chain housing off and just by chance touch the 13mm nut that hold the old tentioner in place..AHHHH it FALLS OFF IN MY HAND! No JOKE! It seems the actual housing was the only thing keeping the nut from falling into the engine....GOOD GOD!

And to top that off, the chain is totally loose on the lower side
The tensioner has totally collapsed too by the way....JEEESH!

So I'm chalking this up to good Karma from the P-Gods and that not so important family matter

To top the day off, as if it wasn't already exciting enough, I realized that now I have to order at 5pm the sprocket spacers to even finish the job

Pelican will get'em here by Saturday! wooo hooo!

How do I get the fully primed Tensioner back off to install the spacer? Doh!

Looks like the quick turn around isn't so quick after all!

Word of advice to ANYONE who hasn't done this upgrade already; DO IT NOW!

You have no idea whats going on in there until you look.....

If I'd gone on the 1st PCA tour this weekend w/out this work, well, I think you guys know I'd be looking at a complete rebuid!

So take it from a procrastinator (s) don't put off the maintanance/mods that you read around here, leave nothing to chance... I will now go put a serious dent in my pint of guiness......

I feel better already...

Did you notice the thrashing noise from the rear? That's the usual symptom, otherwise you are indeed fortunate you caught the collapse right when it happened.

Good karma has its benefits.

You know that is one of the first things I asked myself...How did miss this? My mechanic looked the car over only 400mi ago?! he did say "little noisy"
But there wasn't massive thrashing... only one side was collapsed, the right side was very firm and holding firm... Crazy! that's why I was saying "if you haven't dome this, do it!" regardless..

Now if I can only figure out how to get the new tensioner back off for the spacer install ?!

BTW though I'd used up my good karma, who knew? : )
