SSI from 69 911E to 80SC ROW?
 

I have 1969 911E that needs some rustoration, and a 1980SC that I recently acquired.

Will the SSI exhaust from the 69E fit the 80SC? I know I will need some new oil lines but is there anything else I should know? What muffler should I use? How may extra ponies would this generate? Thanks in advance,

I'm assuming the Euro (ROW) SC of that era had the crossover headers, not the nice early style equal length primary headers. Otherwise there'd be little reason to change other than rusting of the parts.

The SSI should bolt right up. You understand the need to reroute one of the oil lines. The only other problem you might run into is exhaust stud length at the head. If your SC has header flanges that are thicker than those on your SSI (made for the earlier thin flanged cars, most likely), then your studs may be too long.

But that's better than being too short. If you don't want to cut them down to size, just put a nut for a 10mm bolt over each stud as a spacer before you add a washer and nut.

A used stock 2 in muffler will bolt right up.

I have heard that SSIs will add about 15 HP. Is this correct?

Well, when Porsche went from the 2 in mufflers to the one in, horsepower was lost. It was in a good cause - reducing pollution.

So going back to headers that stay on their own side instead of crossing over gains HP on these engines. I don't think the SSIs gain significantly more or less than the earlier ('74 and before) Porsche headers, or various other aftermarket products that do the same thing.

I like the SSIs because they work well, are well made, and will outlast the rest of the engine (no worries about CO getting into the cockpit via holes in them, anyway). So I don't know if it is a 10 hp gain or a 15. The 9.8/1 Euro SC with a 2 in muffler puts out about as much HP as a US 3.2.

I did that at one point and they work fine the only thing is the gasket protectors are non existant on the early thin flange ssi's so the exhaust path is not as even as it would be with the proper HE.. you will gain about 15 hp on your sc engine .. good luck
