C2 rear seat problem

I have a 91 C2 targa. The rear seats have two screw on plastic knobs at the base between the seats which you pull to put the seat backs down. They are spring loaded somehow. One knob came unscrewed and the threaded end retreated into its base. Is there an easy way to get the threaded end out to rescrew the knob?

This happened to me! The spring that retains the mechanism pulled it back past the threads. I must be getting old, but I can't remember exactly how I fixed it? It was not hard and no dissasembly was needed. It involved pushing the pin back out from the other end. I think I let the pin from the other side snap back, and it pushed the pin on the other side back enough to get the threads since they are directly accross from each other. My car is in storage, so I kind of need to look at it again. If that doesnt work, try using a small allen key to push it back while the other seat is down. Hope it helps.

Thanks, I'll try that. My car is also currently in storage and I'm going to visit it this weekend and will fiddle around with it. Last summer I tried and nothing worked, but as long as I know it can be done I'll try harder.
I also put up a question about "dewinterizing". What do you do?
