Let's turn up the volume a bit
Picked up a sport muffler off CL yesterday. I painted it last night and installed it at around 8:00 this morning. Naturally, I had to start the car up to see what it sounded like...my neighbors aren't going to like this. The volume went from about 4 to 11. I need a tunnel now.

Your car is hot - exactly what I would want my early 911 to look like. If I had one...
|
Looks sweet.
Good luck with the neighbors. I had to take my M&K off last week because a lady next door was complaining about how her dogs would freak out when I left home in the morning. The difference in sound was like switching from a 935 to a Celica. I think I'm spoiled forever now... |
beautiful 911, i hope my 68 turns out as nice.
|
Rich,
Your 911 looks great with the new muffler. From your pics,I can't see any neighbors houses so they can complain.....:D:D I do recall seeing pics a long time ago of a 'sport' muffler with three pipes - the two out the back and the normal one on the left side. These came with plugs to close whichever pipes you wanted to at any given time/place so as not to upset the neighbors/whoever. I recall Autofarm in the UK made these for a while - no pics, sorry. Your car looks better with every post !! :D Cheers, Dennis. |
Hooooooooooooooly nice...The finest example I probably saw on the BBS....Congrats on that beauty.
|
I'll echo the others, that is a truly beautiful SWB.
|
Lookin' good Rich! I'm liking the newly added bumper tape.
|
Rich,
Looks great and must sound great, as well. Your car really turned out nice. Looking out the window, this morning, it's a great PNW day to break in those new pipes. The neighbors will appreciate the fine sounds, I'm sure. regards, al |
GEEZ!! with a house like that and a car like that. Screw the neighbors!! They should bow down to you.

Bob, you pushed me over the edge on the tape. It's amazing what a huge difference 10 feet of tape can make. My driving lights should be here next week and that'll be the finishing touch for the exterior...for now. Everybody, thanks for the nice comments. |
Nice Camus basalt key stone work over the brick arches!
|
Rich, who makes the Sport muffler on your car? I'm looking to put a louder muffler on my 911 soon.
|
Anthony, mine is definitely a homemade job. When I was prepping it for paint I had to snip off some rouge mig wires around where the pipes meet the muffler. If I hadn't found this one I would have bought a Dansk sport muffler from our host...in fact, I was going to do that next week.
|
Yeah, I think I'll go with one of those systems or a Bursch system.
Thanks! And it looks really nice, actually the whole car looks like a million bucks!SmileWavy |
Here's a pic of the aforementioned muffler.
You could get a muffler shop to weld one for you (starting with a 2in/2out muffler; you have to cut the muffler open to remove some baffles and attach the 3rd side pipe) http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1203301721.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1203301760.jpg Cheers, http://nicolashunziker.com |

+1 looks great - enjoy! |
Geezus that is sweet!
So is that blue car ('67S?). |
Fuch the neighbors!
|
Rich's nearest Homosapian neighbor is at least 400 feet away having been to his house to buy his 1982 911SC from him.
I think he's more concerned about scaring the bunny rabbits, deer, and field mice on his acreage. Oh those poor frightened bunny wabbits hopping frantically left and right as he leaves the house. Rich, if you want, I can bring up my sound level dB meter so you know how loud is LOUD. For example I just measured Jeff Higgins little blue car that you've seen up at your place that also has a sport muffler, I won't post the exact numbers of his, but idle was low-mid 90 dB and at 4000 rpm in neutral was slightly over 100 dB. You haven't seen your old little red car in a while, so let me know and I'll bring it and the dB meter up some night after work. PM me with some details if you want to meet up. |
Nice!
Now go get a tubing cutter and hack about 4" off both of those pipes, your shins will thank you. Signed, John (with the moon-shaped scar on his shin) |

Dave, nice to hear from you. The car's up on jackstands right now so I can replace the oil pressure relief springs. I got one done, but I have to drop the left heat exchanger to get to the other one. I'm trying to track down the cause of my low oil pressure. I will definitely get ahold of you when it's on the ground again. Should be tomorrow or the next day. |
