I've got what feels like a fairly serious problem with my gearbox. I am having MAJOR hassles getting the car OUT of first gear, once I've been moving in that gear.
It's as if there's an incredible force fighting to hold the car in 1st. I need to tug at the stick maybe 6-7 times to get it into neutral. It's a real worry, as I can no longer drive it normally or in traffic. It's usually accompanied by a large "bang" that resonates throughout the car when it does come free. Like its had to jolt the entire driveline or when you pull the car out of gear while it's still got the clutch "out" and you've got power on.... ![]() I'm really starting to panic, as prior to this I posted about gearbox problems 1-2 shift and Warren suggested that I change the gear oil etc. When I removed the inspection hatch, we found a piece of the 1-2 synchro ring jammed in the selector forks. Anyone heard of the gears being jammed/stuck in first? Could it be that the clutch cable has slipped and the clutch is still out and it won't fully disengage? I don't smell anything bad.. I really need some guidance before I shell out for a new 5-speed in place of this 4-speed. Thanks, Adam ------------------ Adam Chaplin adamchaplin@optushome.com.au 1976 911S Coupe |

"When I removed the inspection hatch,
we found a piece of the 1-2 synchro ring jammed in the selector forks." I guess that answers your question. Good luck with your tranny overhaul. ------------------ Doug '81 SC Coupe (aka: "Blue Bomber") Canada West Region PCA members.home.net/zielke/911SC.htm |
