Question momo bucket seats

I am considering purchasing a pair of bucket seats for my street-driven 911. I have narrowed down to Momo seats but undecided upon which type. Any suggestions??

What year of 911 is it? Targa or coupe? Why Momo? What color is your interior, and what are you looking for from the seats?

I would suspect that there are a number of other alternatives: Sparco, Corbeau, Kirkey(www.kirkeyracing.com/Seats.html). To name just a few. It really depends what you are looking for: street or competition or a combination of both. Although the competition seats, really have you "glued" in place - there size is pretty much limited. Don't expect any "adjustability". Also padding is somehat limitedI have found that @ 6' and over 200lbs they become a really tight fit, especially around the shoulder girdle. Momo tend to be smaller than Sparco for example. Kirkey make custom built. Sparco (www.sparcousa.com)I find has a good compromise with their Milano seat. Very comfortable, adjustable and will accept a racing harness. It also flips forward so that you can still have access to the rear seats - which I think is a practical alternative.
I know that Jack has chosen another brand. i think that you have to decide what you are looking for: purpose, appearance, comfort, support, etc.

The Milano looks like a great seat. I got the Corbeau Targa RS, which is similar in appearance, at least. But I got a pair of them, in leather, for less than the cost of one Milano. So I was swayed as much by economics as ergonomics.

Those Kirkey seats look pretty serious. When you get that kind of seat, it can be kind of punishing during normal driving, and lateral movement is just not an option -- which is fine, so long as you never have to reach over and open the passenger window.

just some more info:

i have sat in just about every brand of seat made, and i have a few bits of advice:

the Kirkey seats are FULL ON RACING SEATS. those are serious seats meant for cars that don't see too much time on a street... unless it's on the way to the track and back. i see them in more race cars than i do Momo seats, and look in this month's Excellence Magazine for an article on a guy that made a lightweight 911 race car and chose the Kirkey Road Racing Seat. not only is it nice, it's LIGHT! the road racing seat is one of the highest quality ones i've seen, bar none. they are LIGHT, and STRONG... one of the reason they are only for racing is because you need a roll cage to mount them properly. they mount to the cage, and once they are set to your preferred driving position, they are in there to stay. you will need a removeable steering wheel to get in and out of your car. you can tell they are serious seats because when you log on to the site they don't ask "what kind of car do you drive"... they ask "what do you race?"

i like that

i also have a few friends with MOMO seats in their street cars. these seats are quite nice. one friend has the carbon/kevlar ones and they give you a good bit of support and look great. they are also VERY expensive. the thing that is starting to bug me about MOMO products is that they are inflating their prices because they're getting popular with the import hot rodding set. i personally feel that the Sparco and Recaro seats are not just a better value... they're just better seats! you sit in one and you say "yep, it's perfect!" the Momo ones are essentially the same, but they don't seem to offer a reason to pay 10%+ more for the same product that Sparco makes.

remember that whichever seat you get, you have to factor in the cost of mounting rails, hardware, and (if you don't do it yourself) installation. before you buy ANY of them, sit in them first. seats are like gloves. one that everyone else loves may end up driving you nuts.

good luck!

obin

side note: why does MOMO make a seat called the "NASCAR" when NASCAR guys use Richardson, Butler, and Kirkey seats?

My only suggestion here is go to the showroom and try every single one before you take out your wallet. Every brand and series are made differently. Get the one you feel the best. Generlly, I think Recaro is the best but pricy, but you can feel the different. Let us know what do you get finally!

Has anybody got any opinions about König (or Konig or Koenig) seats?

http://www.koenig-sitze.de/

I´m thinking of buying the K 5000 ones. They look very "Porsche", like sportier version of factory sport seats.
Actually I came across a RUF ad from ´94 showing these seats in leather and mid section stitched as original factory being offered as official RUF seats!

I´ve also been offered Recaro A8 seats, any experience with these in 911? By measuring only they seem to be quite a tight fit.

The A8 is probably a better seat, but it looks a bit too modern to me, a bit aftermarket. I think the K 5000´s would blend in better and look more discreet.

I settled on Cobra Imola II seats. They are full-on competition seats. I couldn't find a better seat for the price in Kevlar. These seats are light. Made in UK.

Give Jim Huston a call at Autotoystore.com. He has some great prices.
